Story has been ill and confined to her home in Wilkeeboro during the peat week. Mr. John Ed mis ten is erecting a new home near his residence on the Moravian Falls road. Mrs. Edwin Duncan, Sr., and daughter, Miss Jane Duncan, of Sparta, visited here Wednesday with Mrs. John T. Hoyle. Mr. H. D. Woodruff, father of Mrs. W. R. Harmon, of this city, continues very ill at the hospital in Elkln, where he underwent an operation a* week ago today. Mrs. John Walker has been ill for several days and is a patient at the Wilkes hospital. Friends hope for her a rapid recovery to normal health. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Miller, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Crysel, and Mr. Clifton Miller were guests last Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Crowell at Lincolnton. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reynolds, of Greensboro, visited here a few ^rdays last week with Mr. and Mrs. George Kennedy and Miss Sam Johnson. Miss Margie Newton, who is in school at Virginia-Intermont Col 1 lege, Bristol, Va., was here for the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Walter Newton. Mrs. S. L. Whitaker left Tues day to spend a few weeks with her brothers, Messrs. Ollie, New ton and Edward Wood, in Mi-' ami, Florida. Mr. Flake Cook is now conval escing at his home in Wilkesboro following an attack of pneumonia He was a patient at the Wilkes Hospital for a week. Mr. Bill Bason, who is at tending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was here for the wek-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Bason, and had as his guest a schoolmate, Mr. Page McCauley, of Danville, Virginia. I Guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Swofford for the week end were Mrs. Swof ford's father, Mr. O. S. Franklin, of Marion, and Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Steppe and four children, also of Mar ion, and Mr. and Mrs. John Web ster, of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Swofford is a sister of Mrs. Steppe and Mrs. Webster. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Walker, of Moravian Falls, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Woods, of North Wilkesboro Route 2, spent the week-end in Bassett, Va., with friends. While there they attend ed the wedding reception of Mr. and Mrs. Bobbie Jim Woods. Mrs. Woods is the former Miss Phoeba Mason, of Riverside Drive, Bas sett. Va. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Green were' called to Greenville Thursday due1 to he sudden death of Mrs. Green's father, Mr. C. L. Herring, I who died from a heart attack. ^ Others from here attending the funeral, which was held Satur day at 11 o'clock, were Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Adams and Miss Vera Bum garner. Mrs. Marshall Holoomb, of El kin, visited herd Friday with her daughter, Miss Mary Louise Hol comb, and Mrs. O. C. Holcomb. Miss Margaret Cassel, a nurse at Baptist hospital in Winston Salem, spent the. week-end with her mother, Mrs. A. S. Cassel, in Wilkes boro. Miss Betty Ruth Morrison, who is in student nurse training at Concord, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Morrison. Mr. Russell L. Young, Jr., who holds a position in Greensboro, spent the week-end here with his father and mother, Rev. and Mrs. Russell L. Young. Mrs. E. S. Zimmerman has been in Winston-Salem for the past week with her foster daugh ter, Mrs. Norman Harvel, who is quite ill. Mrs. Delia E. Frazier, who has been a patient at the Mercy Hos pital in Charlotte for about two weeks, is reported to be slowly improving. Mrs. George Burgess, Mrs. Mel vin Kenerly, and Mr. James W McNeill, of Belk's Store, were business visitors in Charlotte Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Meadows visited Mr. and Mrs. George Lax ton at Kings Creek Sunday. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Cal Carlton and Mr. and Mrs. Blake Carlton and family at Boomer. Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Pugh, who are now residing in the Foote Apartment 63 Ninth Street, visited Sunday in Graham with Mr. Pugh's relatives. Mrs. Pugh is the former Miss Luray Leonard of Tabor City, who formerly held a position here with the Spain hour Store. | Mr. Hubert Gambill, brother I in-law of Mrs. T. E. Story, of Wilkesboro, died Thursday in Asheville. Those attending the funeral in Asheville Sunday in cluded Mr. T. B. Story, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Story and Mr. and Mrs. Don Story. Mrs. Hubert Gambill is a sister of Mrs. T. E. Story. A boy was born January 6, to Mrs. Dorothy J. . Eddinger, wife of Carl S. Eddinger, chief boatswaim's mate, U. S. N., 0f North Willkesboro, N. C., at the Naval Hospital, Guam, M. I. The baby's name is Robert Leo. The baby's father is serving aboard the gasoline tanker, U. S. S. Wat chagu with the Pacific Fleet.
