The convention is being held for those missionary Baptist churches o* the "seventh region", which oomposes Wilkes county and those counties adjoining Wilkes with the exception of Iredell but the addition of Avery. Woodall, Lenoir. 12:05 — Hymn No. 362, "The Solid Rock." 12:10 — Adjourn. . o Navy Recruits Go To Great Lakes Station Navy enlistees from the Wlnston-Salem recruiting district which' includes Wiles, will take their recruit training on the shores of Lake Michigan rather than in southern California, as they have in the past, it was announced today. The changeover from San Diego, Calif., to Great Lakes, 111., became effective on Monday, April 24th. This will mean that the enlistees will have a twS-day train trip to the naval training center. Great Lakes, 111. Previously it the trip to the training center, lias required four days to make San Diego, Calif. Navy enlistees are given a n-day leave of absence upon , completion of their recruit] tag, and in the past a large , of this time has been spent enroute to and from' their homes. Under the new arrangement the men will be able to spend more of their leave with their families and at considreably less expense, to themselves. This change will j also result in considerable savings to the government, and is part of the navy's campaign to eliminate unnecessary expenses. •' © > .H •!
