"In recent study conducted by
the Salisbury, N. C. Social Secur
ity Office, figures revealed that
more than 10.7 percent of th'e liv
ing wage' earner claimants and
6.2 per cent of survivor claimants
in the area serviced by this of
fice lost benefits during 1949."
This statement was made today
by Louis H.. Clement, manager of
the Salisbury office.
An analysis of the study indi
cated that the chief reason for
these losses were the workers and
their families were aware of
their full rights and privileges un
der the Social Security Act, and
to a lesser extent, that they re
ceived Incorrect Information from
unofficial sources.
"In order to protect his inter
ests," Mr. Clement said, "the
worker should file a claim for
benefits if he has worked under
social security, has reached the
age <6, and has retired from em
ployment under the law."
Mr. Clement pointed ont tnat
employers can/ play an Important
part In reducing benefit losses If
they will Inform their 65-year old
- employees, who are planning to re
tire, that they may be eligible for
social security benefits for any
months in which they earn less
than $15.00.
Benefits are not payable until
a formal application is filed at a
Social Security office. Benefits
that are lost through delay in fil
ing cannot be recovered.
The Salisbury Social Security
office is located at 303 Post .Of
fice Building in Salisbury. Office

What Good Are You When You Are Good For Nothing?
(Read Matthew 5:13-16)
WOMEN! If your house were filthy dirty, would you
gather your skicts about you and go out the door and
slam it behind you? You might feel like it, but you
wouldn't do it, because it's your house and the
home of those you love.
MEN! If your field was full of weeds, would you neglect
It and go fishing?
Wilkes County Is Your Hpme and Your Field.
The majority of the citizens of Wilkes County are good
citizens. It is high time that they exercised their
franchise and cleaned up this county.
