Observe Birthday
Party Tuesday f$
F^tfy-four members attended the
annual birthday party of jthe Women
of the Presbyterian church
held Tuesday evening in * the educational
building of the church.
Mrs. L. H. Snyder, the president,
was In charge of the business part
of the meeting. \
Mrs. J. H. Winkler, program
chairman, presented Mrs. Robin
Woo ten, a teacher in the North
WUkeaboro high school, who
gave the number of high school
boys and girls graduating lost
year in the school and the number
attending college, also the
number ef graduates for this
Wring and the number planning
\ to further their education. Miss
vR«th King Wood, director of religious
education for the church,
told about the religions influence
of church schools, and Miss Billjr
Jo Zimmerman sptfke on the lack
of religions influence in nonchurch
schools.
The birthday offering received
at the regular meeting goes to
Student-Work in the General Assembly
and to the Texas-Mexican
Industrial Institute, these causes
being presented by Mrs. T. A.
Finley. As the offering was received.

by Mrs. Gordon Finley and at the
close Miss Wood sang "Dear Lord
and Father of Mankind."
At the close of the meeting
the new members of the church
sinqe last April received in the
Ladles Parlor with members of
the Executive Board. New members
present were Mesdames
James E. Anderson, Robert Taylor,
Walter Webster, P. M. Williams,
Jr., and Miss Wood. Punch
and cookies were, served by the

Installs Club
Officers Monday
Mrs. Ed M. Anderson, of West
Jefferson, State President of Federation
of Woman's clubs, attended
the monthly meeting of the
North Wllkesboro Senior Woman's
elnb held Monday afternoon at
the club house and Installed the
officers for the new club year.
The officers are as follows; President,
Mrq. R. T. McNlel; first
vtee-presidedt, Mrs. C. Don Coffey,
Jn, second Vice-president, Mrs.
C. B. Bller; recording secretary,
Mrs. Guy Lillard; corresponding
secretary, Mrs. Jack 8wofford;
and treasurer, Miss Rath Colvard.
Mrs. Anderson, who was presented
by Mrs. Vernon Deal, spoke
briefly and stressed the importance
of club work.
Mrs. Irey Moore, the retiring
president, presided, and also gave
her yearly report while Mrs. Deal
occupied, the chair. Mrs. Moore's
report and that of the treasurer,
Miss Colvard, showed that the
club had had a most successful
year in its activities and accom-,
plishments.
The club voted to give $25.00
to the Community Recreation
Council, and $10.00 to the Cancer
Fund. At the June meeting the
various committees will be appointed
by Mrs. McNlel, the new J
president.
Tempting refreshments were
served during the social hour by j
the hostess group. The club house
was attractively decorated with

giving a festive setting for the |
occasion.
Jettie Lee Jarvis
Celebrates Birthday
Jettie Lee Jarvis was honored
Sunday at a birthday dinner given
by her great uncle and aunt, Mr.
and Mrs. R. C. McCarter, at their
home on North Wilkesboro, Route
Two. The honoree, who was seven
years old, is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. C. R. Jarvis. Approximately
twenty-five guests were
present for the dinner and showered
Jettie Lee with many nice
gifts.
Miss Broyhill Is
Honored At Party
Mrs. jerhn Andrews was hostess
at a lovely party at her home in
Boomer Saturday evening honoring
her sister, Miss Naomi Broyhill,
who is to be married in July
to Harold Parks, of Roaring River.
A corsage of sweet peas and the
Bride's book was presented to the
honoree. After several games and
contents delicious refreshments
were served by the hostess. The
home was attractively decorated
with mixed spring flowers.

Mary Llnday Stafford combined
hospitality to the member* of the
American Legion Auxiliary in
their monthly meeting held Monday
evening at the Phillips home
in Plnley Park. Mrs. R. G. Pinley
was In charge of the business
session during which time delegates,
Misses Norma Stevenson
and Rebecca Mosely, and alternates,
Miss Mary Lindsay Stafford
and Mrs. Lillian Plttman, were
named to attend the State Convention
to convene In Charlotte,
June 24th. Mrs. W. R. Absher, a
past state president, will attend
<as a delegate at.large.
The auxiliary vdted to buy two
Community Concert tickets to be
used by members of the Girl's
Scout Troop In Woodlawn, under
the direction of Mrs. Cecil Adamson,
Community Service chairman.
Mrs. Ivey Moore, chairman of the
hut committee, gave a fine report
of the work that had been done
at the hut in painting, cleaning,
and reflnishlng floors.
Mr. W. H. Puller, pt Rockford,
111., met with the group and presented

Broyhill-Parks Engagement
Announced
Mr. and Mrs. L J. Broyhlll, of
Boomer, announce the engagement
of their daughter, Naomi, to Harold
Parks, son of Mts. F. L.
Parks, of Roaring River, and the
late Mr. Parks.
The wedding will take place in |
July.
