' ; , • Due to the fact that there have been numerous rumors regarding my withdrawal *from the race of Sheriff of Wilkes County and several untrue statements made as to why I pursued this course, I feel it my duty in fairness to everyone to know the true facts and take this means to straighten out this whole affair. ;r 1 I \ When I filed for the Primary, I did so at the insistence of several of my friends, and not on account of any one person or any small group of persons. When I decided to withdraw I did so of my own accord and not on ac count of any promises or trades made by me and any other of the. candidates. The only thought I had. in mind was promoting party harmony whiqh would result in a victory this fall. Neither of the other Candidates who are still in the primary race ever suggested to me thdt I withdraw or even mentioned such a thing .to me; how ever I was approached by Ex-Sheriff W. B. Somers who wanted me to withdraw in favor of Mr. Bilfings and sug gested that by so doing I could remain on as chief deputy. This proposition was not taken by me and had nothing to do with my withdrawal. ■M m5 ■ J i I am standing ready to do all in my power to elect the nominee this fall.. I have no trades with anyone and no political axe to grind with anyone, but want my friends and Citizens of Wilkes County to know the truth. It ii not my purpose to make-an active campaign for anyone but to stand squarely behind all Republican nominees. With grateful appreciation, I am, yours for a Republican victory in Wilkes County this fall, '• •< - r|H-M i (Paid Political A iira
