Clara Lee Watts Of ik Huffman, Jr. Clara Lee Watts, daughter •f Mrs. Flnley C. Watt*, of Pur lear, and the late Rev. Mr. Watts, sad Frank Hoffman, Jr., son of Mrs. fVank Huffman, of Drexel, and the late Mr. Hoffman, were united in marriage on Thursday, June the tint, at the New Hope Baptist church at Purlear. Rev. Victor Watts, brother Of the bride, heard the tows at'eight o'clock using the double ring ceremony. Pines, white gladioli and white candles decorated .the church. Miss Lois Scroggs, pianist, and Miss Martha Lue Frazier, soloist, rendered a program of wed$ttg< 1nupic. Prior to the ceremony-hdvr Miss Scroggs played "Romance" * (Rubenstein), and Schubert's Ser enade, Miss Frazier sang "Ave Maria", "O Promise Me", and for the benediction, "The Lord's Pray er**. As the tows were spoken Miss Scroggs sounded muted notes ef "Clair de Lune" (Debussey), and the traditional weddftjigi marches were used for the proces sional and recessional. The bride, given in marriage by her uncle, J. L. Watts, worn a wedding gown of Japanese em broidered silk fashioned with a; marquisette yoke, long sleeves and a train. Her veil of illusion was finger-tip length, and she carried a bouquet of white roses centered with a lavendar orchid. Mrs. W. H. Crews, of Lake Wales, Florida, matron of honor for her sister, was gowned in a pink lace dress over taffeta made with yoke of marquisette and net skirt. She wore pink lace gloves and for her fiswers had a nosegay of blue MM. Wilbnrn Berry,. Of Drexel, bro ther-in-law of the groom, served as best man. The ushers were Earl Franklin, brother-in-law of groom;! The picture shows new and retiring officers of the North Wilkesboro Woman's Club. New officers were installed in the May meeting by Mrs. Edd Anderson of West Jefferson, state president. Reading left to right are: front row—Mrs. Ivey Moore, re tiring president; Mrs. R. T. There was no reception but im mediately aftqf the ceremony the bridal party received guests in the vestibule of tKe church. Mrs. Watts, mother of the bride, wearing a navy blue crepe dress, had a corsage of gardenias, and the groom's mother, Mrs. Huff man, dressed in black chiffon, al so had a corsage of gardenias. For a wedding trip to Gatlin burg, Tenn., the bride changed to a pink unlined suit, "white batiste blouse, with which she used navy and white accessories. She pinned at her shoulder the orchid from her bouquet. The couple will make their home at 1231 Park Street, Bowling Green, Kentucky, where the groom is a senior at the Bowling Green Business University. Before entering the University he serv ed three years with the Fifth Air Forces, part of the time be ing over seas duty. The bride, a graduate of Mars Hill Junior College, has been em ployed for the past six years with the Northwestern Bank in North Wilkesboro. Miss Nellie Gabriel Honored Twice Mrs. Isaac EMler, Jr.. and Mrs. Charles Day, Jr.1, included guests for five tables of .cards when they entertained Thursday evening for Miss Nellie Gabridl at the Elfer home in Finley Park^ Miss Gabriel, who is to be married ^n June, the tenth, to R. H. Dillard, received from her hostesses a lWely^cor sage and a gift. In the game of bridge high and low score prizes went to Mrs." Charles Sink, Jr., and Miss Helen Phillips, and in canasta Miss Ruby Kilby was the winner. The ices, in wedding molds, and the cake served at the beginning of play carried a color note of green and white, while the place cards were attached to miniature bouquets of mixed sweet peas. Another delightful courtesy for Miss Gabriel took place on Wed nesday evening following the First Methodist church choir rehearsal, when the choir members assembled at the home of the pastor and his wife, Rev and Mrs. Russell L. Young, for an informal hour. Miss Gabriel, a member of the choir, received from the group a plat ter In her china. Around twenty were present and 'during the hour enjoyed tempting refreshments. Dr. And Mrs. Hayes Entertain Club Dr. and Mrs. William C. Hayes were hosts to the members of their monthly dinner-bridge club at their home in Wilkesboro Thursday evening. The group as sembled at the Wilkes Hotel for dinner at seven o'clock, later go jing to the home of Dr. and Mrs. Hayes for their game of cards. Top score awards In bridge went to i Miss Elizabeth McNeill and Charles C. McNeill, and in set back to Lloyd Phillips. Mrs. Rob ert Oamblll recieYed the bingo award. Bridge was played at three tables and setback at one table. Miss Elisabeth McNeill, bride-' elect and gpest of Mrs. Lawrence i Miller at the dinner, received from ; Mrs. Miller a corsage of white roses, and from Dr. and Mrs. kayes a bridal gift. —| -o— Little Mountain Grange In Meeting Little Mountain - Grange met May 25 with a large crowd pre sent. Mrs. T. W. Ferguson, county deputy, was present. Seven new members were .taken in and one was re-instated. H. M. Willis, of Eikin, made a splendid talk on "Soil Conservation."
