MISS MAMIE SOCK WELL — EDITOR 4 Miss Katherine Irvin Feted During Week This week three delightful prenupital courtesies were extended to Miss Katherine Irvin, who today was married to Claude Bentley, Of Pores Knob. On Monday Mrs. Robert Smoak and Miss Norma Smoak gave a luncheon at the Wilkes Hotel for Miss Irvin and her attendants, covers being laid for six at 12:80 o'clock. The honoree received from her hostesses a corsage of white flowers and china in her chosen pattern.- Bridal place cards marked the guests positions at the table, which was centered with an arrangement of roses in pastel shades. Miss Betsy Barber, one of the bridesmaids, honored Miss Irvin at a bridge party given at the Barber home in WllkeBboro Monday evening-. An ice course, emphasizing the birdal colors of green and white, was served at the beginning of the game played at three tables, nuptial tallies, and green and white Queen Anne's lace used for decorations, furthered the accepted motif. Top score prize in the bridge game won by Mrs. W. C. Hayes ' and the bingo award by Miss Mary Elmore Finley, Miss Barber presented the bride-elect with a corsage of gardenias and a lovely table lamp. Miss Lucille Vernon, Sandy Ridge, the ^naid of honor, Miss Eunice Folger, Dobson, and Miss Jeanie Garwood, North Wilkesboro, bridesmaids, entertained at a wedding breakfast this morning at the Carolina Restaurant in honor Of Miss Irvin. Covers were laid for ten at a table where the appointments featured the bridal note. The hostess trio refemebered the bride-to-be with a gift and a corsage. ; . ,-T. -% How Are Your Floors? Long, and Mrs. C. J. Winslow combined hospitality to the members of the Woman's Society of the Wilkesboro Methodist church in the July meeting held Tuesday evening at the White home. "Never Again Such Insecurity — A. Story of Israel" was the theme of the program given by the Pearl White circle. The story told of the forces which led to the establishment of the state of Israel and the implications for the American Christian. Mrs. Grace Terrell, leader, conducted the devotions, and was assisted in presenting the topic .by Mrs. A. R'. Gray, Mrs. Louise Alexander, and Mrs. Long. Mrs. W. M. DeBerry, the president, was in charge of the business session, and announced that a session of the Bible study would be taught at the church Monday evening, 7:30 o'clock, by Mrs. Brame and Mrs. Norman Cockman. Mrs. Long, who is leaving Wilkesboro, was presented with silver in her pattern by the Society. Eighteen members were present andj were served refreshments during the social hour. Mrs. W. T. Long Feted At Party Mrs. W. T. Long, who is leaving Wilkesboro, was shown a lovely 'courtesy Monday evening when Mesdames A. R. Gray, Sr., W. M. DeBerry and W. W. Miller, Sr., entertained at a rook party at the Gray home in Wilkesboro for Mrs. Long. Six tables were arranged for the game in a colorful setting of gladioli and other garden flowers, and at the close of play the hostesses served a sweet course. The hostesses gave Mrs. Long a corsage and silver in ner pattern, and Mrs. W. T. Cranor, of Detroit, Michigan, house guest of Mrs. Miller, was also remembered with a gift. Prizes in the game were awarded to Mrs. Bon Perkins for high score, to Mrs. J. W. Powell for low score, and to Mrs. M. G. Edwards for bingo. Miss Caldwell Honors Miss Katherine Irvin Miss Geraldine Caldwell was hostess to the members of her bridge club at her home oil Kensington Drive Saturday afternoon. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Bob Day for high score andvto Miss Harriett Crutchfield for second high score. Mrs. Katherine Irvin, bride-elect of the week of Claude Bentley, and honor guest of the club, was presented with china in her wedding pattern by Miss Caldwell. When cards were laid aside the hostess served a salad course. Sale-Mathis Vows July 8th Miss Elizabeth Mathis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Coy Mathis, of Roaring River, became the bride of Guy Garner Sale, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. R'. L. Sale, Sr., of Roaring River, on July 8th at York, S. C. E. Getty's Nunn officiated, using the double ring ceremony. The bride is a graduate of Wilkesboro High school. The groom also attended Wilkesboro High school. After the ceremony the couple left for a wedding trip through Western North Carolina and Tennessee. Upon their return they will be at home at route 2, Roaring River. Parks-Mitchell Vows Are Spoken Mrs. J. W. Parks, of Cycle, announces the marriage Of her daughter, Thelma Joan, to Elmer Kermit Mitchell, also of Cycle, on Thursday, July the sixth. The marriage ceremony was performed at the home of Mrs. T. L. Wagner, an aunt of the groom. The double ring ritual'was used with Rev. Clifford Vestal as the officiating minister. The bride was attired in a white suit using navy accessories, accentuated with a red rose corsage. After a wedding trip to the Smoky Mountains, the bridal couple returned to the groom's home. A reception and family reunion was held in their honor on July, the ninth, at the home of Mrs. S. A. Mitchell, being attended by approximately 150 relatives and friends of the bride and groom. First Methodist W.S.C.S. Met Tue'sday Approximately thirty people attended the monthly meeting of the North Wilkesboro Woman's Society of Christian Service of the First Methodist church held Tuesday afternoon in the church parlor. Mrs. Cecil Hauss, of the Frank Smoot circle, led the meditation \period and gave a talk on the topic for the month, "Never Again Such Insecurity — A Story of Israel''. Mrs. Harold Sturdivant, gave a most interesting report on the Conference meeting of the Woman's Society she had attended recently at Lake Junaluska. Mrs. W. F^ Gaddy, the president, occupied the chair during the business session. Wesleyan Service Gui Id Met Tuesday "Never Again Such Insecurity— A Story of Israel" was the topic I for study at the monthly meeting of the Wilkesboro Wesleyan Service Guild held last Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Yale Miller with Mrs. Jay Jones as associate hostess. Mrs. Jones, who was in charge of the program, had the assistance of Mrs. David Parks, Mrs. Johnson Sanders, Mrs. Thomas Orysel, and Miss Jeanie Garwood in presenting the theme. During the business session plans were made to hold a rummage sale in the near future, the proceeds to be used for repairs on the church. A social hour and refreshments were enjoyed at the close Of the meeting. Miss Jettie Lowe Kyle Beshears Exchange Their Vows Miss Jettie Lowe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lowe, of Pores Knob, became the bride of Kyle Beshears, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Beshears, of Summit, at eight o'clock in the evening, Saturday, July 15. The ceremony which was performed by Rev. Iredell Osborne, took place in the couple's apartment at Cricket where they will make their home.. The bride wore a white tropical suit with navy accessories. Her corsage was of red rose buds. After the ceremony the bridal couple left for a wedding trip. The bride, a graduate Of the Wilkesboro high school, is employed at Harris Brothers' Department Store in North Wilkesboro. The groom, a graduate of the Mount Pleasant high school, is employed with the Southern Cleaners, also of North Wilkesboro. o The average dairy cow today Is giving about 20 per cent more milk than she did 25 years ago. o More than a million maps are used in taking the census.
