Mr. and Mrs. Joe Canter and son, Paul, have returned to their home here from Independence, Va., where they spent a week with Mrs. Canter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Wingate. Miss Prances Harris and Miss Geraldine Gaddy spent the week-end at Boone with Miss Nancy Lanier, Of Norwood, a cou sin of Miss Gaddy, who is at tending summer school at the Ap palachian State Teachers College. Mrs. Robert Maitland, of Greensboro, was a guest here over the week-end in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Zimmerman. Mrs. Maitland is a cousin of Mr. Zim merman. Misa Anna Laura Canter and Mr. Hubert Canter returned to the city Friday from St. Louis, Mo., where they had been on a successful buying trip for Tom linson's Store. Mrs. Stokes Lane, of Washing ton, D. C., is spending awhile at Shatley Springs. Mrs. Lane, a former resident of this city, visi ted here with friends before going over to Shatley. - Mr. and Mrs. Harold Glovier, of Canford, N. J., are visiting with Mrs. Glover's brother, Mr. Tracy Higgins, and sisters, Mrs. G. G. Wood, Mrs R. A. Miskelly and Mrs. Ida Billings. Mr. and Mrs. William Siegel and children, Carole, Betty, Billie, and Rosemary, of Greenbelt, Md., are here visiting with Mrs. SiegeFs sister, Misss Lunda Hendren, and other relatives. Mr. Poddy Horton has entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for the second ses sion Of summer school. His bro ther, Mr. Bucky Horton, who was there for the first session, remain ed for the second term. Edgar C. Hayes, seaman re cruit, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Hayes of Route 3, North Wilkesboro, is undergoing recruit training at the world's largest Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, 111. Miss Dianne Rousseau, Andora Ingle, and Ruth Pearson, left Sat urday for the V. I. Ranch Camp at Bristol, Va., where they will be for three weeks. They were ac companied there for the day by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Pearson. Rick Hubbard, son of Mr. and! Mrs. Fred Hubbard, Jr., has en tered Camp Morehead for a four weeks stay. He was accompanied there during the week-end by his mother and the other children, who are visiting awhile at Wrights ville Beach. DR. Phillip* and daughter, Miss Helen Phillips, hare reutrned to their home here following a trip of several weeks to the west coast and points in Canada. The Phillips, accompan-, | led by several friends Win J ston-Salem, oa the way out visit ed the Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parka, and in Canada were at Lake Louise and the Banff National Park.
