Draft Age Boost
Would Giro N. C.
595,000 Eligibles
Raleigh — The -rumored draft
age limit of 35 years would boost
North Carolina's selective service
manpower pool to about 595,000.
No action has been taken on
boosting the draft age, but au
thoritative sources in Washington
expect Congress to be asked to
up the age limit.
Lieutenant Colonel Thomas H.
Upton, deputy State director of
selective service* said yesterday
an estimated 280,000 men between
26 and 3<5 years old will be added
to the eligible list under the new
order.
As of June 30, he said, the
State's eligibles numbered 315,
295.
Hev commented It wag unlikely
that many men between 28 and
35 would be taken, primarily be
cause of veteran and dependent
status.
ted of Mrs. D. E. Turner, Mrs.
Clinton Eller, Mr. Bob D. Church,
Mrs. Edd Bumgarner and Mrs.
Addie H. Jones. The table covered
with a lace cloth, and with bowls
of flowers beautifully arranged
showed some one was artistic,
or was putting into practice some
of the things learned at a pre
vious club meeting.
We were served refreshing
punch by Mrs. Cashion, and a
tasty sandwich and pretty cook
ies by Mrs. Shoemaker and Mrs.
Whitaker. Each officer fully ap
preciated this honor, which was a
variation to our usual program.
Mrs. Turner, our president, pre
sided at a brief business session
discussing some old and new
business. Then Mrs. R. C. Good
win gave a helpful discussion on
rooting cuttings and planting
shrubbery.
It was decided to have a com
munity picnic the evening of the
2nd of August. The place? The
Community House! Everyone, big,
little, young and old, is invited.
I know there will be plenty of
good eats for every one will furn
ish a basket, and what a spread!
Yum! Yum! See you at the pic
nic August 2. Don't fail to be pre
sent.

too perfect.
All this automobile must be hard to
