Graham in the highest terms, and nomi. nating him for re-election, was presented at tbe afternoon, session of Monday, and unanimously adopted. A committee was then appointed to tt on the Governor, and inform' him of his nomination; which duty was performed, and the Governor presently appeared; before the Convention and in a brief but able and impres sive address accepted the nomination, and re tired amidst the prolonged and thundering ap plause of the whole house. iMr. Francis j addressed the Convention in his own peculiarly nervous and pleasjng manner, for 20 or 30 minutes ; when there was a call for Mr. Waddell, who finally appeared and re quested, for satisfactory reasons, to be excused from speaking at that time. Mr. Stanly was then called, and most nobly did he answer the call. He did not expect to speak, and therefore did not come with any thing prepared but it was none the worse for that. He spoko in the best possible spirit, in strains of wit, eloquence and argument, which called ; forth repeated bursts of applause. After he concluded, the Convention adjourn ed until Tuesday morning ten o'clock. We have not room to notice the proceedings further to-day. They will be published entire in our next. TKe Raleigh Star of the 14th instant, says f The Democratic Convention, which assembled in this city, on the 8th instant, nominated Green W. Caldwell, Esq. Su perintendent of the Branch Mint at Chars lotte, as their candidate for Governor. He is a genteman of respectability, but possessing; no talents above mediocrity, and is little known out of the district which he once represented in Congress.' Col. Gait her was removed from the Branch Mint and Mr. C. appointed in his place ; and we are inclined to think he will not, warm partisan as he is, let ig-oUhaf good, to grasp after one so high above his reach as that of the Chief Magistracy of the State. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." Mr. Fisher's refusal to run, however, put the Convention into a diffi? cully, and we suppose this vas the best they could do. It would not have done to have gone home without, nominating some body. - The Convention, we understand (for we were hot present) manifested a jvery sow er temper towards the Whigs. !Mr. Hen ry, the President of the body, is said, re marked in his inaugural, that he had no more respect for certain Whig leaders; such as Daniel Webster. c&c. f than he had for a parcel of sbeep-stealihg dogs V and w.-is greatly applauded ! Mr. Vena ble. Gen. Saunders, Judge StrHnge Mr. Ellis, Mr. Disbrow, Col. Wheeler, and Messrs. Smith of Orange & McRbe of Ral eigh, all addressed the Convendoon with much animation, and some of them with no little abuse of their opponents. We cannot think that such a spirit Will meet the approprirtion of thepeople of N. Car olina. Their resolutions, we learn, take the same stand for Oregon that the aboli tionists of the North do, imt the j whole of it is ours, and we will have it. us, and hope br fashionable work and strict attention to business to merit a continuance of the same.
