Indeed, my sit uation was considered critical. When I reached Shocco, 1 was unable, without as sistance, to ret from my carriage to my room, f did not drink the water more than a fortnight, Seforr I had so far recov eied my health as to be able to walk a loneall over the yard; and, in a very short time afterwards, to tie astonishmentof my frif n'is, I returned honi- entirely well. FRANK A. THORNTON. From John Rtckwith, AI. D. Raleigh, May 10, 1337. ' Dkar Madam Yiu riot unreasonably conclude that one who, like myself, has been an occasional visiter at Shocco Springs for more than five and twenty years, should be able to form a jusi esti mate of their medical efl' cts. It gives me pleasure to be able, from much obser vation, and no small personal experience, to Kay, that the waters are w II adapted to cases of convalescence from bilious and intermit lent Fever; that they correct a vitiated or deficient action of the Liver; give keenness to the appetite, and tone and energy to the digc-tive Organs Those who reside in low an J unhealthy districts of country, will find at Shocco during the Summer months, a pure and invigorating air, comfortable accommo dations, mineral waters answering all reasonable expectations, ami a table, of which the only fault is, being rather too tempting for invalids. It is proper to reraark, that the water parts with much of its active properties in a short time alter being drawn from the Spring, and therefore, in order to realize its full benefits, visiters should take it at the Fountain. Very respectfully, JOHN BECKIVITIL To Mrs. Johnson, Shocco springs. From Ellis A fa lone, AI. D. May 2, 1S37. Dear Mauah I take pleasure in statins that iu my opinion, the water of Shocco J Snrinrs it nn-tpser-il nf art oTfenaivo anH I dirtct influence over the diseased actions of many of the organs of ui-system. Ac tively diuretic, gently laxative, and, if ei ercise is taken after using it, not a Utile diaphoretic, together with its invigorating influence over the chytopaeiic apparatus, increasing the appetite and strengthening the powers of digestion, it could not well be otherwise than that the proper use of it, should be greatly conducive to the resto ration of the healthy action of diseased or gans, to which it bears so manifest re lation. My information in relation to its medi cal properties has been derived from no little personal experience. It will readily occur to intelligent medical men, to what class of diseases a remedy having such effects as described above, will be appli cable, who will likely be consulted by in valids wishing to avail themselves of its benefits before leaving their respective homes.
