Waldrop, who for the past 16 years has been chief of police here, retired from the office on Wednesday, being succeeded by C. B. Justice. Mr. Waldrop, a native of Polk county, has been a resi dent of Rutherfordton for 20 years. Patrolman Wayne Bridges also retired from the force Wednesday, being replaced by Carol Wright. James M.
