British War Relief So many people have been ask ing questions about the continuance of work for British War Relief, it is essential that important facts be clarified. First of all, the di rectors of the British War Relief Society have been in conference with the American Red Cross and have concluded that their func tions in no way conflict. Nothing that is done by British War Re lief infringes upon the work of the Red Cross. Secondly, Presi dent Roosevelt’s Committee on war relief agencies believes that Brit ish War Relief activities consti • a valuable contribution to the mon cause and should continue, he need for aid to our British allies is as great today as ever before and the unusual severity of the winter calls for larger ship ments of warm clothing for the children and socks and sweaters or the men in the fighting forces. The same staff of workers who have carried on since the inception of the Tryon branch, is continu ing the job with the same zeal but without the cooperation of the community, they cannot ex pect to go on indefinitely. Money is needed for the purchase of dress material and wool and those who donate any sum, however small, will be contributing to the American cause, for this is our battle as well as Britain’s. Tryon has established a magnificent rec ord that brought commendation several newspapers through the country and it would be tragic indeed if that record were not sustained. H. B.
