Takes Over As Rotary Head
The Tryon Rotary club begins
its 16th year on Friday with the

tors: James R. Trowbridge, R.
C. Burnette, Fred Owen, Dudley
C. Smith, B. L. Ballenger.
The meeting will be held at
Sunnydale at 1 p. m. Mr. Mc
Gavern will be in charge of the
program and will make committee
appointments, discuss the budget,
and other business matters. James
R. Trowbridge is the retiring
president.
Piedmont Boy Scout Camp
Enjoying Successful Season
The Piedmont Boy Scout Camp
at Lake Lanier has been enjoying
a very fine season according to
camp director, R. M. Schiele. The
camp has been in operation several
and will run until the latter
'$4/0 of August.
At the camp this week are
Troops of Troutman, 4 and 7, of
Statesville, 1 of Polkville, 8 of
Shelby, 2, 5 and 7 of Kings
Mountain, 1 of Catawba, 14 of
Hickory, 3 of Lenoir, and 5 of
Belmont, the eamp being filled
to its capacity of approximately
200.. Among the various leaders
at camp this week are Rev. J.
Lewis Thornburg, of Statesville,
Rev. Herman Fisher of Kings
Mountain, Rev. W. L. Scott of
Polkville, and Rev. W. A. Sigmon
of Hickory.
The campfire programs of en
tertainment given at the Kistler
Memorial are attracting numerous

$6,000.00 Paid Investors
The Tryon Federal Savings &
Loan association has mailed out
dividend checks amounting to ap
proximately $6,000 to people who
have been investing their savings
with the TFS&LA the past six
months. The association has been
paying four per cent without fail
since its organization, an depo
sits are guaranteed up to $5,000
by a federal insurance agency. M.
R. McCown, secretary - treasurer
of the association, says the or
ganization will become a great
reservoir of surplus money which
will be put to use to rebuild com
munities when money is needed.
The association encourages its
members to buy War Bonds and
Stamps. A monthly report mailed
July 1st, showed that the local
organization had bought $5,000
worth of War Bonds. Just recent
ly the indebtedness on two homes
was paid up and the mortgage
cancelled through regular savings
deposits made through the Tryon
Federal Savings & Loan asso
ciation.
246 Young Men Register
For Fifth Draft In Polk
Chairman Julian B. Hester re
ports that 246 young men 18 to
20 registered on Monday through
the Polk County Draft Board. The
number registered by township
committees is as follows:
