The start was slow as it takes a lot of dimes to make a foot, but once they began to show up quarters, half dollars and even checks and folding money joined the procession as passersby saw what was up. The long line of silver became fascinating. Af ter a few hours it started rain ing. -The checks and paper money were picked and with clothes pins and lines borrowed from Arledge Hofl^ware they were hung up un t^Hpawnings of the stores while tn^ silver money carried on the white line to the bank. Chairman Craig Thomas states that over $411.00 was raised. Leonard Por ter was master of ceremonies with the loud speaker and was assisted by Harold Griffith. Others helping included Seth Vining Jr. and his Boy Scout Troop, Mrs. John Mc Guinn and her Cub Scouts, Clyde Tharpe, Thurston Arledge, Demus Chapman, J. A. Simpson, Harri son Bridgeman Jr., S. Davidson and many others gave a helping hand from time to time to make occasion a success for the crippled children . .. Jenn Durham, Dot Covington, Mary Fox, Jane Gagnier, Cleo Geer, Ethel Hipps, Evelyn Landis, Katie McGuin, Louise Morton, Anna Lois Page, Del Pruitte, Ruth Tharpe, Janet Swann, and Eda Wall. These girls will play op posite the Tryon faculty who will make up the Baby-Sitter team. They promise fun for all and hope the game will resemble basket ball.
