The Polk County Historical Association will meet Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Polk County Library. Now that the holidays are over maybe we can get back on a regular schedule. A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Terrell (Carolyn Willard) are parents of a daughter, Holly Blair, born Dec. 2nd at Spartanburg General Hospital. Holly has’ a sister, Heather, age 3. The maternal grandmother is Ms. Wilma Spurlin of Tryon and the maternal great-grandmother is Mrs. Minnie Spurlin of Tryon. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Terrell of Morehead City. WEEDERS MEET TODAY AT 3 The Weeders Garden Club of Landrum will hold its first meeting of the new year on Wed., Jan. 2 at 3 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Frank Carruth. The program will be the annual business meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Martin have returned to Tryon from Yardley, Pa. where they spent the holidays with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. David Martin, Miss Kelly, Chip, Brady and Chris. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Ken Stoll (Nancy Martin) and son, Bucky, of Columbia, Mo. Jazz Group , Here Jan. 12th Get ready, area Jazz fans. It’s going to happen again! Dixie’s finest Dixieland! The Carolina Jazz Society “House Band” is coming to the Tryon Fine Arts Center January 12. Remember when this same basic group set you on your ears and brought you to your feet? It was a year ago October and — for those of you who didn’t make it, now’s your chance to discover what your friends were talking about for months and months after. Again there will be two performances, a 2:15 p.m. matinee and an 8:15 p.m. session. At Tryon’s first Jazz concert, evening seats were filled by enthusiastic repeat ticket-buyers who had heard and witnesses the sounds of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s that afternoon. The Carolina Jazz Society, now in it’s 28th year, is dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of traditional Dixieland Jazz. And hearin’ is believin’! Accorind to an ad tickets at $3. are now on sale at the Business Office of the Tryon Fine Arts Center, as well as NCNB in Tryon and Columbus, the Blue Ridge Weavers and The Book Shelf. — Reporter Mr. and Mrs. Ligon Flynn and children, Haywood and Brooks, have returned to Wilmington after visiting Mr. Flynn’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Flynn and sisters and brothers- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Holland Brady and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Moore, all of Tryon. Music Saturday At The Upstairs Folk Potters, Chamber Music and traditional music of America and the British Isles will all be part of an evening at the Upstairs, Tryon’s alternative space gallery. On Saturday, January 5 at 7:30 the program will commence with a slide show “Folk Potters of Spain, North Africa and the Canary Islands. This show by Claude and Elaine Graves of Little Mountain Pottery is the result of months of travel and work with foreign potters working in both the indigenous primitive and the Hispano- Moroesque pottery, traditions. Chamber Music for cello and flute by Judith and Peter Kutt and friends will continue the program. The evening will be brought to a rollicking close with good time music performed on hammered dulcimer, fiddles, mandolin, banjo, guitar and pennywhistle by the Three It’s A Matter Of Detail Professional Architectural Restoration Services are now available in the Tryon area.
