Farm Emergency
Loans Authorized
In Polk County
Farmers in Polk County are
eligible for emergency loans
from the Farmers Home Admin
istration (FmHA) to recover
from losses caused by excessive
rains and cool temperatures from
January 1, 1979, to July 25, 1979.
FmHA State Director James T.
Johnson has authorized loans on
special emergency terms to
farmers who cannot find other
sources of credit needed to
restore operations to normal.
Acting County Supervisor Lar
ry E. Phillips of the FmHA Office
in Rutherfordton, which serves
Polk County, said damage
assessments show significant
loss of apples, corn and peaches
in the county.
Mr. Phillips announced that
applications for loans based on
losses of physical property will be
accepted until September 8, 1980,
and on production losses until
December 8, 1980, at the FmHA
office located at the Federal
Building. 121 S. Main St.,
Rutherfordton, N. C. Monday
through Friday, from 8:00 a.m.
until 5:00 p.m.; or at the County
Manager's Office in Columbus,
N. C. on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m.
until 12:00 noon.

Billy G. Bagenstos has filed for
the Republican nomination for
District Court Judge in the 29th
Judicial District. The district is
composed of Polk, Henderson,
Rutherford, McDowell and Tran
sylvania counties.

judicial seat presently held by
Robert T. Gash of Brevard.
The; candidate has served
previously as a police officer in
Miami, Fla. and Northwestern,
Montana and as a Deputy Sheriff
in Henderson County. In 1975 he
was appointed a Henderson
County Magistrate, a position he
presently serves in. He said that
among his reasons for seeking
the judgeship was his concern for
protection of the community
through the just application of the
law. He said that he was certain
that the many Democrats whose
votes will be essential to his
election, would vote for him after
hearing his statements through
out the campaign.
He is married to the former
Wanda Jacobs of Fletcher and
they have three children. He has
a real estate business in Saluda,
is a mason and a member of the
N. C. Magistrates Association.
