The inquiry from William Barlow, 14 Butler St., Brooklyn, N. Y. 11231 was addressed to the Polk County Historical Associa tion. Through courtesy of Walter Gray, librarian of the Polk County Public Library the 1914 April issues of the Polk County News were scanned on the microfilm machine. The first issue in April had a news-editorial by Editor Geo. R. Cobb stating that Dr. Leila Gertrude Bedell died at her home in Tryon March 29 from pneumonia. She was 76. She came here to rest and was so charmed with the people, climate and scenery that she made it her Rome; and had a little leaflet printed which she mailed to friends and gave them away for others to mail. She appeared as speaker on Lanier programs on various subjects many times; was chairman of the committee to make improvements in the community; served as president in 1910; presided over luncheon given here in honor of the president of the General Federa tion of Women’s Clubs, of the U. S. Mrs. Philip Moore at which time the president of the North Carolina Federation was Mrs. Reilly present. On April 2, 1914 a special meeting and memorial exercises in memory of the former president Dr. Leila G. Bedell was held at which time “Mrs. E. G.
