Jonathan,” planning to mail it on to my mother, when I noticed what was either a typo or misinformation, the kind that would make my ancestor-minded 86 year old cousin cringe! The gentleman was Governor Jonathan Trumbull, not Turn- bull! I am one of his direct descendants, and the name Trumbull is still carried on in our family. Governor Jonathan Trumbull was the last Governor of the Colony of Connecticut, then the first Governor of the State of Many Thanks For Your Warm Welcome On Our Opening Day THE DINNER BELL STAFF Connecticut, serving from 1769- 1784. He was the only Colonial governor to be so popular with the people that he served both under the Crown and under the new independent nation. His son Jonathan was also Governor of Connecticut from 1797-1809. Another son, John, was the noted historical painter. So TRUMBULL, please, not Turnbull! Sincerely, Connie Junker (Mrs. Ralph D.) The Feb. 6th issue of the Rutherford County News had a picture of a ribbon cutting ceremony opening a new office facility, located on North Main Street in Rutherfordton.
