Everyone is claiming victory in
the Maine Democratic caucuses.
President Carter won with 44
percent of the vote; Sen. Edward
Kennedy who said earlier that he
must win in Maine, now says that
he is pleased with his 39 percent
of the vote; California Governor
Brown said that he was please in
getting 13 percent of the vote
after having spent only a little
over a week campaigning in
Maine. So apparently everyone is
a winner.

TRYON, N. C. 28782
Gets 15 Years
Calvin James, 29, of Charlotte
pleaded guilty to attempted
armed robbery and assault and
battery of high and aggravated
nature Friday in Spartanburg
General Sessions Court. Judge
William J. McLeod of Dillion
sentenced him to 15 years for
attempted armed robbery and
five years for the assault. The
sentences will run concurrently.
James was the driver of the car
which attempted to rob Harley
Solesbee last fall. The net
sentence of 15 years was
recommended by Solicitor
Claude A. Taylor, Jr. because
James testified in the trial of a
co-defendant Thursday, he had no
record, and he didn’t actually
beat Solesbee.
James testified Thursday that
he drove the car which was
taken from Robert Petty in
Gaffney and in which Petty was
in the trunk, to the Solesbee
station. James said he remained
in the car while Johnson went
inside. Other witnesses testified
that Johnson beat Solesbee on the
head with a pistol. — from

Geir said that he was going to
show them what the Arledges had
shown him when he first came
