President Carter Wednesday night endorsed creation of an international commission “with a carefully defined purpose” as a step toward winning the release of American hostages in Iran. Today is the last day to get your auto tags. Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. is the Pancake Supper at Mill Spring Elementary School, sponsored by the Mill Spring Ruritan Club. Sunday at 3 p.m. the Garrison Chapel Baptist Church presents the 3rd annual Pre-Spring Musical and Tea featuring The Garrison Chapel Young Adult Choir, The Green Creek Com munity Chorus and special guest the 0ES Gospel Chorus, Western Carolina University. Although speci- Continued On Back Page State Department Official Here Eric E. Svendsen of the U. S. State Department will speak at the model United Nations Security Council Tuesday at the Courthouse in Columbus. Stu dents from Polk Central High School and Tryon High School have elected 60 delegates and 20 members of the Secretariat. The project is to make students aware of the diplomatic process. Mr. Svendsen joined the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer in 1971, and has served in Monrovia, Liberia (1971-73) and Sofia, Bulgaria (1974-76). Since 1976 he has been stationed in Washington where he currently serves as a political officer in the Office of United Nations Political Affairs. His responsibilities in clude participating in policy formulation dealing with the issue of international terrorism at the United Nations. Mr. Svendsen was born in Michigan in 1944 and raised in Indiana. He received his BA from Carleton College, Northfield, Minn. (1966), and his MBA from Columbia University (1968). He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Iran for two years (1968-70) where he taught at Jundi Shapour University. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Svendsen helped found the Mattatuck Bank in Waterbury, Conn. He and his wife and two small children live in Fairfax County, Va. Children’s Pictures To Be Published A year ago we published a number of young people’s pictures in the paper and it proved to be a popular feature. Interpress Studios of Marietta, Ga. will be here Thursday, Feb. 28th from 2 to 7 p.m. at Dean Butler Realty. All photos will be published and there is no charge or obligation. Appointments may be made by calling Jacqueline Brown at 859-6767. Also invited to have their picture taken are adult men and women. These won’t be published in the paper, but the Bulletin will be given a black and white photo that can be used in the paper from time to time. There is no obligation to buy a picture, but of course the photographer hopes it will be so good that he will sell you some. Need Help The Doughty family whose home burned Thursday morning lost everything in the fire. Mrs. Doughty wears size 24% clothes and size 9 shoes; Mr. Doughty wears 34 pants, 15-33 shirts, 8% shoes. Their son, Phillip wears 36 pants, 16-34 shirts and size 10 shoes. Also living in the house were their daughter, Robin and her husband Randy Goode. Mrs. Goode wears petite size, 11 or 12 clothes, 61'2 to 7 shoes and her husband wears 32 pants, 1514 shirts and size 9 shoes. If anyone has clothing or any other item they can donate call 457-4248. Ken Bostic To MC Talent Show Ken Bostic of WSPA-TV will be the Master of Ceremonies for the Sunny View Ruritan Talent Show Saturday, Feb. 23rd at 7 p.m. at the Mill Spring School. Election Spartanburg County District One voters will elect three members to the School Board on April Sth. Candidates must file petitions with the County Board of Registrations and Elections on or before March 7th. Meeting Sunday At Stony Knoll The Educational Committee of the Polk County Unit of the American Cancer Society will hold a meeting at the Stony Knoll Community Building Sunday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. These meetings are to educate the public on signs and symptoms of cancer and the proper time to seek treatment for best results. The public is invited.
