The U. S. Olympic Committee
said Thursday that it will “accept
any decision the President makes
on not sending an American team
to the Summer Olympics in
Moscow this summer.
The Winter Olympics have
opened at Lake Placid, N. Y.
Another request has been made
for merchants, professional
people, etc. to park their cars in
off the street parking lots. It
would enable everyone to have an
opportunity to park near the store
they are trying to reach if
everyone cooperates.
TODAY from 12:30 to 5:30 the
Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at
the Episcopal Church in Tryon.

Polk Central High School and
Tryon High School will have the

Mr. and Mrs. Jack H. Hall, Jr.
(Sherry Connor) of Wellford, S.
C. are parents of a son, Jack
Andrew, born February 13th at
Mary Black Hospital in Spartan
burg.
The maternal grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Connor,
Jr. of Landrum, S. C. and the
paternal grandmother is Mrs.
Betty Hall of Wellford. Paternal
great-grandmother is Mrs. Cora
Russell of Inman, S. C. and the
maternal great-grandparents are
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Connor of
Asheville and Mrs. James 0.
Ashe of Cullowhee. Maternal
great-great-grandmother is Mrs.
Lena Cooper of Whittier, N. C.

Members of the Nine O’Clock
Cotillion will have a Washing
ton’s Birthday Ball on Thursday
evening, February 21st at The
Hearthstone Inn.
Hors d’oeuvres will be served
at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30.
The Rhythmaires of Green
ville, S. C., will furnish the music
for dancing.
Dr. and Mrs. Earl Brendall
have returned to Tryon from
Baltimore, after being with their
son, Paul who underwent major
surgery at Greater Baltimore
Medical Center Hospital. Dr.
Brendall returned Saturday,
February 2nd; and Mrs. Brendall
and Paul arrived on Saturday,
February 9th. Paul, who is
employed by Koppers, Inc. will
be with them for several days
until he is fully recovered.

Judy Groff
Judy M. Groff, State 4-H
Specialist, with the N. C.
Agricultural Extension Service
will be the guest speaker tonight
at the 1980 4-H Volunteers
Appreciation Dinner.
Mrs. Groff, a native of
Henderson Co. and a graduate of
UNC-Greensboro began work in
Polk Co. as Assistant Home
Economics Agent in 1972,
becoming Associate Home Eco
nomics Extension Agent while
here. Her work here was with the
4-H program and the foods and
nutrition program area of home
economics. While here Mrs.
Groff earned her Master’s degree
in Adult Education from North
Carolina State University^
Now residing in Raleigh with
her husband, Don, she works in
the State Agricultural Extension
Office on the NCSU campus with
responsibility for state-wide 4-H
Program Development Matters.

AARP Meeting
The regular monthly meeting
of NRTA-AARP will be held at
The Meeting Place at 2 p.m. on
Tuesday, Feb. 19. The program
will be a slide presentation on
nutrition for senior citizens. It
will be presented by Jacqueline
F. Henson, Home Economics
Extension Agent for Polk County.
Visitors are welcome. Refresh
ments will be served following
the meeting.

There will be a workshop on
Window Treatments sponsored
by the Home Economics Exten
sion Department on Wednesday,
February 20, at 10 a.m. in the
conference room of the Agricul
tural Building in Columbus.
Basic types of window treat
ments and individual problems
and projects will be discussed
according to Mrs. Jackie Henson,
Home Economics Extension
Agent.
Mrs. Charles Brewster will be
hostess to the Tryon Antique Club
at her home in Landrum
following the program given by ,
