Polk County Board of Education Edneyville Downs Polk Central Girls The Edneyville girls defeated Polk Central 47-37 Thursday night in the semi-finals of the District 81-A Playoffs at Tuscola. The Edneyville girls got strong scoring from its front line as Janice Conner hit for 16 points, Theresa Griffin 15 points and Sherrie Waters 12 points. The Edneyville girls dominated the board play and beat Polk Central for the 3 out of four times this year. Edneyville jumped out to an early lead and by halftime built up to a 23-15 lead. The Lady Patriots made a run for it in the fourth quarter, mainly on the play of Kelli Sheehan, but Edneyville manag ed to stay in front all the way. Sheehan and Dina Smith each had 10 points for Polk Central. The Polk Central girls closed out its season with a 12-10 record and were runner-ups to Edney ville in the Appalachian Conf. Tournament before falling to them again in the District playoff semi-finals. Edneyville will play the winner of Friday’s game (Hawassee Dam-Tryon) Tuesday at 6:30 at Tuscola.
