Special Gifts For St. Luke’s At the February meeting of the St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary Board Mrs. Thomas Beaver, president, announced that the special lights for the operating rooms and several surgical instruments had been ordered and would soon be in use. This equipment has been purchased by the Auxiliary, and is being donated to the hospital. Other Auxiliary donations included $150.00 to the Emplo yees’ Fund, and $200.00 to the hospital Medical Library. A $1,000.00 Scholarship for Health Education will again be available in 1980 to a qualified recipient. Funds for these donations are raised by the Thrift Shop and the Gift Shop as well as through regular dues and other activities. In January, the popular Fashion Show resulted in two vanloads of household furnishings which are being placed for sale in the Thrift Shop on a regular basis. The famous “bag sale” will be held in March..the date to be announced later. The Hospital Gift Shop located in the lobby has benefited from a trip to the Charlote Gift Show by the chairman. Many delightful items are on sale and new things Glidden are added every day. Plans for a booth for the Health Fair being held in April are underway. The booth will be manned by Cherry Smocks and Junior Volunteers (Candystrip ers). The bulk mailing permit recently obtained for the Auxili ary Newsletter will soon pay for itself in saved postage, according to the chairman. Bulk mail is more work for the volunteers, but the substantial savings will make it worthwhile. Auxiliary membership is down a little (although dues are still acceptable) but the volunteers seem to be more dedicated to their tasks and show up as scheduled. Volunteer hours serv ed during January totalled 1,762, and the Reception Desk chair man reported over 6000 visitors and 336 ministerial visits that month. All volunteers are important to St. Luke’s Hospital. 500-hour bars were awarded to: Mrs. Huston Brown, Mrs. Guilford S. Turner, Jr., and Mrs Herman Spoerer. While most volunteers are women, men contribute essential services as Couriers and Wings, and by providing items such as the volunteer workroom bulletin board to keep track of volunteer hours; by working to make the Thrift Shop more attractive and convenient; and by their willing assistance whenever it is requested. — Reporter Tryon Daily Bulletin, Wed., Feb. 27, 1980 FOR SALE: 1970 Trophy House WANTED: Mature, dependa- Trailer. 12 ft. wide, 60 ft. long, ble woman with own transporta- Call 859-6315 day or 859-5594 tion to keep two children in my night, adv. tf. home part-time.
