Charlotte Fowler Is Ramp Champion Sunday’s Asheville Citizen- Times had an article of the Big Ivy Ramp Festival Saturday. This year for the first time there was a ramp eating contest especially for women. One of the pictures accompaning the article showed Mrs. Charlotte Fowler, Rt. 1, Columbus busy putting away some of the 76 raw ramps she ate in the 5-minute contest to become the champion. The Bulletin learned from a “reliable source’’ that Mrs. Fowler had eaten 70 ramps at dinner just prior to the contest. A large delegation from Polk County attended the Ramp Contest. Dance Recital Friday at 7:30 Miss Marion’s School of Dance will present their annual Spring Recital for the Tryon branch on Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center. The recital “The Big Shoe” will be presetned by the following Polk County area students: April Ashley, Charlotte Blackburn, Anita Bradley,- Tammy Bunch, Joy Blanton. There is no admission charge and the public is invited. Saluda P.T.O. Spring Festival The Saluda P.T.O. Spring Carnival will be held Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Saluda School ballfield. A spokesman said that there would be fun for all ages. Tryon Bands Concert Wednesday The Tryon Bands will present their annual Spring Concert Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center. Music will be presented by all three bands. A Vist To Mother Earth Farm The Town and Country Organic Club of Columbus in conjunction with the Rutherfordton Organic Garden Club is sponsoring a visit to Mother Earth Farm on Sunday, May 11.
