27 ATTEND BOONE CBC BIRD MEETING Members of the Tryon com- munity composed over 30 percent of the 89 attending the spring meeting of the Carolina Bird Club held in Boone over the May 9-ii week-end. The CBC comprises bird watchers from both Caro linas. Saturday morning and after noon were devoted to a selection of bird walks near or adjacent to the Blue Ridge parkway in the Boone area, including the Cone and Price Memorial Parks. Eleven birders from the Tryon area stayed over until Monday and visited the wildlife sanctuary maintained by the Carolina Nature Conservancy in the Bluff Mountain area near Jefferson, northeast of Boone, where a number of rare wildflowers were observed in bloom. Attending from the local area were: from Tryon, Harry and Bunny Bates, Kenneth and Martha Frederiks, Norme and Betty Frost, Katherine Kirby, Ces and Beth Loveless, Betty Paterson, Betty Poteat, Hilda Safford, Bill and Carol Stoddard, Maria Sturcke, Gwen Weide- mann, Jane Walker and David and Kathy Wells; from Colum bus, Graham and Helen Hagey; and from Landrum.
