Smith Rite of the Burial of the Dead including Communion and inter ment in the Tryon Cenietary began at 1p.m. Monday,.lay • 1980 at the Church of the Holy Cross in Tryon for Reverend Paul Curran Smith of Tryon, who died Friday evening, May 23 at Pardee Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville. The service was conducted by the Rt. Rev- William G. Weinhauer, Bishop of the Diocese of Western North Carolina and the Rev. Waller D Roberts. Rector of the Church of St. John in the Wilderness in Flat Rock, and the Rev. Ralph Bonacker, Priest in Charge of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tryon. Born in Peoria, Illinois, March 5, 1898, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Galusha Smith of Peoria, Mr. Smith visitied Tryon prior to World War 1 when he met the late Dorothy Doubleday whom he married September 21, 1918. Living first in Illinois for a few years the Smiths returned to Tryon in 1925 when he became an associate of the late Andrew Law Blue Ridge Development Co. in the development of Hogback Mountain. He returned to Illinois in 1929 to join the Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria as Asst. Advertising Manager and Re gional Sales Representative for the southeast. He was a past President of the Peoria Advertis ing Club and a past President of the National American Federa tion of Advertising Clubs. In 1951 he returned to Tryon as Caterpillar's Dist. Sales Manager until his retirement in 1960. Paul Smith is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walter Knopp of Wycoff, N. J. and Mrs. Edward Dodge of Slick Rock, Columbus and Flat Rock, N. C., and one son, z\rthur Law Smith of Park Forest, Ill., 11 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. The family suggests that memorials be sent to the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tryon. Retiring Saturday’s Spartanburg Her- •ald had a picture of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Bradley (Virginia) who are retiring on June 2nd from Jesse W. Boyd Elementary School in Spartanburg. Virginia Bradley has been a part-time music teacher for 14 years. William Bradley will end a 25 year career as a full-time music teacher. A Girl Scout Sustaining Membership Enrollment Kickoff Luncheon was held recently by Mrs. Marvin Page and Mrs. James Bond at Mrs. Page’s home. They are co-chairpersons of this year's fund drive. Workers for the drive this year are Ms. Gay Lankford, Ms Judy Kell, Hubert Crater, Ms. Lydia Clontz, Ms. Carol McCall, Ms. Sadie McKaig, Ms. Barbara Price.
