Suit Filed Against
School District 1
A $10,000 lawsuit was filed
Thursday with the Spartanburg
County Clerk of Court against
Spartanburg County School Dis
trict 1.
The suit seeks damages for
injuries for a student suffered on
a school playground.
The suit was filed on behalf of
Robbie Laster by his father,
James Laster, against Dist. 1
Board members T. A. Hyder,
Andrew J. Stone, Albert Jackson,
John Austin, Frank Bird, Jr.,
James Petty, Marion Gramling,
Johnny Morrow, Clifford M.
Walden, Randy Craig and
Thomas Regan.
The suit alleges that Robbie
suffered "a broker right wrist
and serious injuries to the head
and eyes" in an eight-foot fall
from a slide at Campobello-
Gramling Grade School in Dist. 1
on April 23.
The Lasters maintain that Dist.
1 and its board members were
negligent in allowing the children
to play on a defective slide and in
not providing adequate super
vision of the children and control
of the playground during recess.
They allege that the slide had a
lop step which was unsecured,
allowing it to tilt randomly and a
