Monday at 7 a.m. the rain was 1.59 inches. That rain early Monday morning was a gully- washer. The deposed Iranian Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, died Sunday morning at an Egyptian hospital. When the Shah was admitted to the United States, the American hostages were taken in Tehran. His death’s effect on the fate of the hostages is unclear. Forest City Little League team defeated Rutherfordton 9 to 6 last Friday afternoon to require another game in the double elimination tournament. The finals on Saturday were rained out and were scheduled to have been played Monday. The District finals scheduled for Monday are scheduled for today at 5:30 at Harmon Field. Hubert (N.A.) Crater shot a round of 72 Sunday at Red Fox Country Club. This is the first time that Mr. Crater has shot par on the course. He had a 36-36 (4 birdies and 4 boogies). He played with Oneil Benson, Ed Sayre and Jack Craig. A “very rare” earthquake centered in northern Kentucky Continued On Back Page Move Here Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gleasen of Westbury, L. I., N. Y. have moved to the Jackson house on Erskine Road. Mr. Gleasen, a native of East Cleveland, Ohio is a freelance writer. He attended John Carroll University and enjoys music, language, reading and loafing. He stated that they traveled through this area several years ago and liked what they saw. Mrs. Gleasen, the former Patricia Irish, is a retired librarian. She attended the University of Washington and Hofstra University and did graduate work at Post College of Long Island University. She likes to garden as well as read Mr and Mrs. Gleasen have four children — Paul E. Gleasen who is editor with the Interna tional Monetary Fund, Washing ton, D. C.; Mark L. Gleason, who has his PhD. and is a teacher at Centre College, Danville, Ky.; Ann Elizabeth Gleasen, a graduate student in art at the University of Utah at Salt Lake City; Peg Gleasen, a law student in Antioch School of Law. Betsy Thomas, daughter of Mrs. Carole Thomas, has returned from a three weeks trip to England with her father, Colonel John W. Thomas who represents an American firm in London. During her visit she and her sister, Alisa travelled by boat-train to Paris They also visited Portiers, France where her sister had attended school. AFS Student Francisco Jose Soto Vazquez Francisco Jose Soto Vazquez from San Ramon, Costa Rica has arrived to spend the year with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meares and children, Jeff, Alison, Tori and Matt. For the remainder of the summer "Chico” will assist his American brother Jeff as a camp counselor at Camp Skyuka where his American father Mr. Meares is the camp director. Chico will attend Tryon High School this fall and he is interested in many sports. He played basketball on his high school team in Costa Rico. Chico is very active in his AFS Chapter in San Ramon. Among the out town guests at the Auberge to visit the museum at the Depot are Mr and Mrs. E. W Barnes and son, Jim, of Batavia, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Cannon of Rochester, N. Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pearson of Florida. Win Softball Playoffs Two local slowpitch softball teams won the ASA District 9 Playoffs at Spindale Friday in Class C. The Women’s team, Walker’s Construction will go to the State Tournament in Sanford on August 29th. The men’s team, Reid’s Truck Stop will go to the State Tournament in Fayetteville on September 1st.
