Nearly 20 million American smokers went “cold Turkey" Thursday, a week before Thanksgiving, in a test of will power billed as the third annual "Great American Smokeout.” One of our readers states if we have a new model car with the pollution converters we should not park over dry leaves or dry grass, due to the danger of starting a fire. He stated that the converters become very hot after the car has been in operation for a period of time. K. C. Smart will head the Tryon Chamber of Commerce Committee for Lighted Christmas trees in Tryon this year. The trees will be put up in Carly December. The Chamber takes the responsibility to see that the trees are put up, but everyone in the community joins in paying for the electricity, replacement of lights, strings, wiring, etc. Contributions may be left al the Bulletin Office or the Tryon Chamber of Commerce office. Frank Mitchell, a retired missionary to Chile for 37 years and the son of the former pastor of the First Baptist Church in Landrum, The Rev. and Mrs. Mitchell retired to Landrum in February following their 37 years in Chile in which they were engaged in training nationals, visiting churches, and teaching in the Baptist schools. Their last assignment was at Punta Arenas, the southermost city in the world Rev Mitchell is a graduate of Furman (BAI, Duke (MAI, and Southern Baptist Seminary (Th MJ A nursery will be provided.
