The death toil climbed above 1,000 Monday in the massive earthquake that spread destruction in southern Italy. A federal appeals court Monday dismissed a class action suit filed on behalf of hundreds of Vietnam War veterans exposed to the defoliant Agent Orange. In a 2-1 decision the 2nd U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals said federal common law would not cover the suit. The dedication of Hwy. 1-26 as the James F. Byrnes Memorial Freeway was conducted Tuesday morning at the Welcome Center near Landrum. Delivering the principal address was Byrnes’ long-time friend, law partner and political associate, Donald Russell of Spartanburg Chrysler Corp confirmed Monday that it made a profit in October - its first black-ink month in nearly two years. P. Earle cafeteria and gym The banquet was held for the 4th, Sth and 6th graders. The 3rd grade football team can look forward to attending the banquet next year. Steve Coley, Landrum High School head football coach was the guest speaker. The awards to the 4th graders (Little Cards) were presented by their coaches, Jimmy Jones, Jimmy Camp and Bruce Cogdell Each player was presented a "T"-Shirt with "Little Cards" printed on it and a small trophy. Shane McAbee, Mark Orduna, Wesley Smith, Brian Kuykendall and Brian Barton, who were named to the All-Star team were presented a football jersey with their number on it. Named as honorable mention were Matt Wesolowski and Chris Jenkins The "Rams", the Sth and 6th graders were presented individual trophies by their coaches. Roger Peeler, Danny Ward, Roger McCracken and Mike Gosnell Named to the All- Stars were Joe Burnette. Trey Dusenbury, Warren Ashmore and Tim McCarty. The Best Lineman Award went to Paul Easlic; Best Running Back, Chris Hardin; and the Most Valuable Player Award to Paul McCracken. The Sth and 6th graders "Big Continued On Back Page Participated In Honors Program Beverly S. Ramsey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lee Ramsey of Rt. 1, Columbus and Carole L. Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Wilson of Tryon recently participated in an Honors Program held at Converse College. Both are students at Tryon High School. Over 150 high school honor students were invited to participate in competition for the Justine V. R. Millikin Scholarships of $3,000 each year for a total of $12,000 for four years at Converse. Thanksgiving At Star Bethel The Ladies Community Fellowship Club will be sponsoring their annual Thanksgiving program Wednesday night, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p m. with the Star Bethel Holiness Church of Landrum. The public is invited We noticed in Tuesday’s Spartanburg Herald that Gainesville Junior College girls basketball team defeated Spartanburg Methodist 75 to 63 The leading scorer of the game was Linda Earls of Gainesville who had 32 points She played on the East Hall High School team of Gainesville which is coached by Seth Vining and led the team to two state championships Men Gardeners Elect Officers At it’s regular November meeting the Men's Garden Club of Tryon elected the following members to serve as officers for the year 1981: George Helmstetter, president; E.
