George Rogers, the University
of South Carolina's All-America
running back, is the winner of the
1980 Heisman Trophy, as the
outstanding football player in
America. He became the first
athlete who played college
football in South Carolina, North
Carolina or Virginia to win the
award. He will receive the award
at a black tie dinner on Dec. ttth
at the New York Hilton Hotel.
A drought warning urging 22
million people in four states to
begin conserving water was
issued Monday by the Delaware
River Basin Commission because
dwindling supplies have left
reservoirs only one-third filled.
The states involved are
Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
Delaware and New York.

the birth of twin heifer calves on
their farm, November 25th.
The Red Angus mother of the
two being a 27 month old first calf
heifer, sired by a registered Red
Angus bull Each calf weighed 30-
40 lbs at birth.

Meets Thursday
The Green River Advisory
Committee will meet Thursday at
7 p.m. at the 4-H and Youth
Center in Columbus.
Paper Drive
On Saturday
A paper drive is being
sponsored by the Tryon High
School Annual Staff on Saturday,
Dec. 6th at the Tryon Elementary
School old gymnasium from 9
a.m. until 12 noon. All types of
newspapers are welcome
Christmas Camp
Camp Skyuka will conduct a
Christmas Camp for children
ages 8 through 14 years old.
Camp begins Dec 27th and ends
on Dec. 30th The children will be
housed in heated cabins and
follow a rigorous indoor and
outdoor camp program,
including sledding and
horseback. For more information

New Chairman

The old Board of the County
Commissioners met at 7:30 in the
courthouse. They accepted a bid
by Boyce Carson of $487 50 for the
old truck and approved the
minutes of the 14 November
meeting. Then Billy Hugh Ruff
asked to be excused With
reference to Isothermal
Community College's request for
lighting in the front parking and a
new entrance, it was decided to
have the lighting but to use the
front entrance of the Meeting
Place; this would cost $3160,
total, from the contingency fund
The Health Department’s request
for $2475 for the landfill dozer cab
was granted.

swore in Phyllis Crain, Willie

Head Clinic
To Open
February 1st
The Board of Directors of the
Dr. W T. Head Memorial Clinic
located on Chesnee Road in
Green Creek, N. C. have entered
into an agreement with Dr. Mark
Hicklin and Dr. Sherrill Braswell
to reopen the Clinic for the
practice of Family Medicine on
February 1st.
Dr Hicklin and Dr. Braswell
are both graduates of Bowman-
Gray School of Medicine,
Winston-Salem, N. C.. and are
specialists in Family Practice.
On Monday. December 8th at 7
p m the Outreach Program at St
Luke's Hospital along with the
Board of Directors of the Clinic
will have a reception for the new
Doctors at Green Creek
Elementary School auditorium at
which time Dr. Hicklin and Dr
Braswell will talk about the plans
for operating the Clinic,
