The Tryon Little Theater has
now instituted a signout system
for borrowing costumes,
clothing, etc. for a short time.
The Little Theatre group would
appreciate people returning
items that they have borrowed
from them. They are especially
trying to find two books done by
Mrs. Norme Frost - one of the
history of organized drama in
Tryon plus one volumn of theater
programs, newspaper clippings
and “Call Boards."

Hospice Board
Meets Tuesday
The greater Polk County
Hospice unit will hold its monthly
meeting on Tuesday, December
16th, at St. Luke's Hospital at 2:30
p.m.
Highlight of the session will be
a report of a local group who
attended the Annual Hospice of
North Carolina two-day seminar
at Burlington, N. C.
Six board members and invited
guests attending the state
conclave were: Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth Selby, Mr and Mrs.
James Flack, Miss Nell Deaver,
Mrs. John Lawrence, Mr and
Mrs David Wells, Mrs. Dan
Trumble and Ms. Lydia Holley.
Mrs. Linda Clement (Mrs.
James) has returned to her home
in Landrum after being a patient
at St. Luke's Hospital.
Musical Program
At Kiwanis Tues.
The Tryon Kiwanis Club will
meet Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. at the
Pacolet River Plantation. The
Polk Central Chorus will present
a Christmas musical program.
Fires
The Columbus Volunteer Fire
Department answered a grass
and woods fire at the home of Dan
Rimer off Hwy. 108 on Sat., Dec.
6th. On Sun., Dec. 7th they
answered a grass and woods fire
at John Weicker’s.
Friday, Dec. 12th at 4 a.m. they
answered a call to a burning car
in the southbound lane on 1-26
below Morgan Chapel Road. The
1978 Lincoln Continental which
burned had been reported stolen
in Asheville on Nov. 30th
Special Treat For
Stearns Children
Stearns School is having a
special Christmas treat for all
students Friday, Dec. 19th.
Students will be served a
Christmas Turkey dinner at no
:ost to them. Parents are invited
to come and eat with their
children. Cost for parents is $2
each and for pre-school children
$1. Parents are asked to notify
the school if they are planning to
attend.

Ormand Named
Fireman Of The Year
The Columbus Volunteer Fire
Department has named Robert
Earl Ormand as its "Fireman of
the Year." Mr. Ormand, who has
served in every capacity except
as chief, is a charter member of
the fire department. When the
Columbus firemen put on one of
their famous chicken supper or
anyone function involving food,
Mr. Ormand is the chief cook and
bottlewasher.
Mr. Ormand has been active in
civic and church activities. He
served as mayor of Columbus for
11 years. He is a former Jaycee
and is a member of the Columbus
Baptist Church where he is a
deacon, member of the choir and
a Sunday School officer. He has
been employed by Bost Bakerv
for 23 years. He served two years
in the U.S. Army. y ars
