No official weather report for

Tuesday was colder and cloudy.
The Supreme Court ruled
Monday that all federal judges —
including the nine justices
themselves — must gel a pay
raise. The court said that
Congress has no power to reduce
a federal judge’s salary, it added
however that Congress can
refuse to vote annual cost-of-
living raises for federal judges
by interrupting a formula for
regular annual raises
the price of oil is going up about
$2 a barrel! which will increase
the cost of gasoline about 2c a
gallon.

Nepal where he was with the
Peace Corps for 26 months. On

At Peniel Church
On Sunday at 11 a m. at the
Pacolet Baptist Church, the
church choir will present the
Christmas Cantata, "I Believe
He's The Son of God. ”
At 7 p.m. Sunday the Peniel
Children’s Choir will present the
Christmas program. “Once Upon
a Night."
The public is invited.
On Exhibit
Mary Schweder-Patterson’s
Porcelain pieces are being
exhibited in several galleries in
November-December.
The Sumter Gallery of Art in
Sumter, S. C., sponsored a two-
woman show of Schweder’s
world. The show opened Nov. 21
and runs through Dec. 27. The
Gallerie Schaeler in Stuffgart,
West Germany is exhibiting 16
pieces this month. ”
Christmas Program

present, "Let Us Adore Him" at 6
p.m. Sunday. The public is

will present a Candlelight
Christmas service Wednesday,

Attracting
Purple Martins
The habits and benefits of
purple martins will be discussed
in a class to be taught at
Isothermal Community College
beginning January 20. Harry
Waters will teach this course on
Tuesday evenings from 6:30 until
9:30p.m.
Purple martins will eat up to 30
pounds of flying insects in a
season and a colony of martins
will return to the same spot year
after year. According to Waters,
martins are one of the best
mosquito controls available.
Anyone 18 or older may enroll
in the class. Registration is $5.00.
North Carolina residents 65 or
older do not have to pay a
registration fee. For more

Make Appointments
The new County Board of
Commissioners met at the Tryon
Town Hall the evening of 15
December 1980. The quitclaim
deed for the Laughter heirs on
property foreclosed in 1949 was
brought up Upon the objection of
Commissioner Paul Butler, the
motion to approve was tabled to
enable the County's and the heirs'
attorneys to negotiate a more
equitable settlement
