Two Fires
The Columbus Volunteer
Firemen have been called out
twice is this cold weather.
Sunday at 7:30 p.m. they were
called to Oman's Nursery on Fox
Mtn. Road where a sawdust
shavings pile caught on fire. No
damage was done.
Monday at 10 a m. they were
called to the John Gibbs
residence on Blanton St where
there was a chimney fire The
fire caused some soot to fall down
the chimney which blocked the
smoke Since the smoke couldn't
get out the chimney, it came out
the flues into the house causing
considerable smoke damage The
firemen climbed up on the roof
and using a chain cleared the
chimney of the soot so the smoke
could get out the chimney.
