Former President Jimmy Carter held an emotional meeting with the 52 Americans held hostage by Iran for 1414 months and then denounced the Iranian government's "despicable act of savagery.” He added, "Our Americans in Iran were mistreated much worse than prevoiusly revealed.” Colene Story Wright, 19, of Rutherford County, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second degree murder in connection with the death of William Burnette of Sunny View in Polk County Superior Court. The state agreed to reduce the charge from first degree murder to second degree and in turn she would receive a life sentence. The robbery charge against her, committed during the murder will be dropped under the agreement. An employee of the N. C. Department of Transportation has been suspended in connection with a bid-rigging scandal among road-paving contractors in North Carolina. J. The community service will begin at 2 p.m. at the Portia Farwell Memorial Gardens at the Fine Arts Center The Community Chorus will sing several songs and anyone wishing to sing in the chorus should meet at 1:15 at the Tryon First Baptist Church. The Tryon Ministerial Association will conduct a short service and prayers. Tryon Mayor Ken Tucker said that everyone is invited. Rotary Chorus The Rotary Chorus rehearsal for the Thanksgiving service for the return of the hostages will be held Saturday at 1:15 p.m. at the Tryon First Baptist Church. The chorus will perform at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Garden.
