Tryon Daily Bulletin, Frl., Jan. 23, 19X1 Where have you seen this sloop before? Hundreds of Chris Borden travelog fans saw it at Borden's most recent program here about sailing on Swiss lakes'. Sloop "Full Swing" has since been lowed over the Alps by Cameraman Borden, and he sailed her down the Adriatic coast to film "Yugoslavia — An Adriatic Adventure." Commentator Borden and “Full Swing" play at the Tryon Fine Arts Center Wed., Jan. 2H at 8:30 p.m. Photographic Competition CHARLOTTE - North Carolina National Bank will award $3,000 in prizes in a state wide photographic competition called "People in Our Neighborhoods." The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers who live in North Carolina Only black and white prints, with a minimum size of 8 x 10 inches and a maximum size of 16 x 20 inches, will be accepted. All entries must contain a person or people, appropriate to the theme that ties in with NCNB's advertising slogan, "We want to be the best bank in your neighborhood." NCNB will pay a first prize of $1,000, second prize of $500, third prize of $250, and 25 Awards of Merit of $50 each. Winning entries will become a part of the NCNB permanent art collection, with the cash prize considered the purchase price. Each photographer may submit up to three black and white photographs taken anywhere in North Carolina. Entires must be mailed to Corporate Communications Department, NCNB Corporation. Charlotte, N. C. 28255, and postmarked no later than midnight. March 1. 1981. Winning entries will also become a traveling exhibition, being displayed in NCNB's corporate headquarters in Charlotte, in other NCNB branches in the state, and in art galleries and public institutions. There is no entry fee except that entrants must supply sufficient postage to cover the cost of returning their entries. A complete prospectus and entry blanks are available at all NCNB branches, at most arts councils, in libraries, and in the art departments of most colleges and technical schools. Buy Building Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Pack have purchased the Dimsdale Building on Mill Street in Columbus where Mrs Pack and her brother, Tim Ballew, will operate a flower shop. Mrs. Pack (Kathyi has had 12 years experience in flower shops in this area. Communication Report For 1989 Fire Saluda Saluda Volunteer Department answered a tola forty-nine calls in 1980. Those being four house fires, six car an miscellaneous fires, fourteen woods and grass fires, property damage totaled $9,750.00 and we saved $76,000.00 worth of property. We also responded to twenty-two First Responder calls, assisted Henderson County fifteen of these calls E.M.S. in and Polk County E.M.S. with four. During 1980 four Saluda Firemen completed first Responder Training, one was certified as an E.M.T. Rick McIntyre P A. joined the Saluda Volunteer Fire Department to assist the medical team Saluda Volunteer Fire Department has started E.M.T training with nine men starting During the year Saluda firemen took 324 hours of fire fighting training, we have twenty-two active firemen and six Junior firemen.
