4-H Funfest
March 14th
The 4-H Funfest will be held
March 14th at the Tryon Fine
Arts Center. All schools have
been encouraged to have a show
or audition. Each school will
select five of their top acts to be
screened at the 4-H Semi-Finals
on March 2nd at 6 p.m at the 4-H
Center in Columbus. Those acts
selected at the semi-final
screening will perform at the
Funfest on March 14th
For those schools not having a
talent contest or auditions and for
those Polk County students
attending school outside of Polk
County there will be provided an
Open Audition at the 4-H Center
on Monday, March 2nd at 5:30
p.m.

“A Fuzzy Tale”
“A Fuzzy Tale,” a short Home
and Family Service cartoon, will
be shown Saturday afternoon,
February 7, at 5 in the Tryon
Seventh day Adventist Church.
The public is invited
The movie is a parable about
"warm fuzzies," which are acts
of positive attention and
recognition. This is a film for the
entire family — lighthearted, but
with a good message, according
t° program chairman Betty
Cross.
A discussion period will follow
the film.
Mrs. Liechty
Elected President
At the annual meeting of
Church Women United, held on
Jan 30th. in the Parish Hall of St
John's Church, Mrs Howard
Liechty (Helen) was elected
President for the coming year
Mrs Liechty is a relative
newcomer to the Tryon area, but
she is not new to Church Women
United: her work with the
organization extends back to the
days when it was known as
United Church Women At that
time, Mrs. Liechty was a
minister's wife sharing Christian
concerns with other women In
planning World Day of Prayer,
an event which pre dated the
organization and in which she
had long been interested. Mrs
Liechty became involved in the
UCW at the local level, then the
state level, and finally at the
national level. She served on the
Committee for Christian Social
Relations and one of its
responsibilities is May
Fellowship Day. another
important celebration of CWU.
Mrs Liechty lived in several
northeastern communities and
through the United Church
Women worked on numerous
projects — the integration
movement, migrant workers,
Meal on Wheels, and a Get Well
Cupboard (where sick room
equipment could be borrowed).
She has been active in the YWCA
and in the American Field
Service program and worked on
the N. J Preparations for the
