Weather Tuesday: high 47, low
30, rain at 7 a.m. Wednesday was
2.32 inches. We didn’t hear
anyone complain about the rain.
It had been a long time between
rains.
The biggest storm of the winter
swept from the Rockies to the
eastern Great Lakes bringing
blinding snow and bone-chilling
cold.
North Carolina labor leader
Wilbur Hobby and two associates
were indicted by a federal grand
jury Tuesday in Raleigh on
charges of fraud in the handling
of federal job-training funds.
Indicted with Hobby were Robert
L. Hughes, Jr., 37, special
projects coordinator for the
state’s Natural Resources and
Community Development and
Mort Levi, 49, former program
director for Precision Graphics,
Inc., a Raleigh printing company
operated by Hobby.
President Reagan, trying to
win support for deep cuts in
social spending, has decided to
leave untouched the basic
retirement program of the Social
Security System, medicare
payments, school lunch and
breakfast program,
supplemental Security Income
benefits for oersons who are

Meets Tonight
The Tryon PTA will meet at
7:30 p.m. tonight in the Tryon
High School Library.
A demonstration of Tryon
High's new computer terminal
will be featured in the program.

have microcomputers.
A free baby sitting service will
be available during the meeting.
Paper Drive
Feb. 21st
Tryon Band Boosters are
sponsoring a paper drive on
Saturday, Feb. 21st The truck
will be parked at Tryon School at
the old gym from 9 to 1
Lollipop Dragon
Today from 4:30 to 5 p.m. the
Children's Story Hour at the
Landrum Library will feature the
filmstip Lollipop Dragon’s
Valentine Party. Children ages 3
and up are invited.

A New Arrival
Mr. and Mrs. Burgess Ward,
Jr. of Saluda are parents of a
daughter. Kelly Diane, born Feb
9th at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Paternal grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. Steve Ward of Saluda.
The maternal grandmother is
Mrs. Dorothy Pace of Pelzer, S
C. and the maternal grandfather
is J. C. Belue of Hendersonville.
A New Arrival
Mr. and Mrs. James E Ward of
Hendersonville are parents of a
daughter, Lyndsay Paige, born
Saturday, Feb. 7th.
(Mrs. Ward was employed by
Dr. J. T. Mize as hygienist).
No Meeting For
Tryon Boosters
There will be no meeting
tonight for the Tryon High School
Boosters. There will be a very
important meeting on Thursday,
March 12th.
Gospel Sing at
Mill Spring
The Sunny View Ruritan Club
is sponsoring a Gospel Sing
Friday, Feb. 20th at 7:30 p.m. at
the Mill Spring School. Groups to
be present are Lamar Sego
Family of Macon, Ga.; The
Ruppe Singers of Landrum, S C.
and the Coopers Gap Quartet.
Proceeds from the Gospel Sing
will go toward a new gymnasium
at Sunny View School.

Meets Tuesday
The Piedmont Audubon Society
will meet Tuesday, Feb. 17, at
7:30 p.m. in the Art Center, 385 S.

Crochet Classes
Anyone interested may still
join the crochet classes now
being taught by Mrs. Ed Komart
each Thursday at 7 p.m. at the
Landrum Library. Mrs Komant
is a volunteer teacher and there
is no fee for the classes
Quilting Group
On Wednesday
During February, the regular
monthly meeting of those
interested in quilting has been
changed from Thursday, Feb. 12
to Wed., Feb. 18 at 9:30 a.m.
Georgia Bonesteel will show how
to make a quilted notebook cover
along with a holder for scissors,
pins, thimble, etc. to wear around
