up the landscape In some of the
warmer spots the dogwoods are
starting to show white
During March there was 4 19
inches of precipitation. The
average for March is 6.66 inches
To date the precipitation has
been 10.20 inches and the average
to date is 17.55 inches, leaving us
7.35 inches short of our average
rainfall.
President Reagan rebounded
Tuesday from gunshot surgery as
he signed a major economic bill
and otherwise resumed
command of the Republic from
his hospital room.
Members of the Tryon Kiwanis
Club are picking up trash today
along Hwy. 108 from
McFarland's Funeral Chapel to
the Lynn Body Shop and along
Harmon Field Road as their
contribution to beautifying the
area in getting ready for the
Steeplechase weekend After
they finish they will have hot dogs
and hamburgers at Bob Mueller's
house.

Meet Monday
The Polk County
Commissioners will meet
Monday at 3 p.m. at the court-
house in Columbus
Tryon School Bd.
Meets Monday
The Tryon School Board will
meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the
Superintendent's office at the
high school.
Rosie Thompson
At The Upstairs
On Sun.. April 5, at 2:15 p.m.
The Upstairs will present a slide
show and discussion by Rosie
Thompson, a well-known artist
from Hillsborough, N. C Ms.
Thompson is associated with the
Center/Gallery in Chapel Hill
and her work is currently on
exhibit at the Conference of
Mayors Building in Washington,
D. C. The slide presentation on
Sunday will center around her
work, her ideas, and the
philosophy from which they
spring. This event will mark the
opening of the Rosie Thompson
exhibit at The Upstairs entitled
"Inerts And Cocoons” which will
consist of soft sculptural pieces
and concepts.
The public is invited to this
show, no admission will be
charged. The Upstairs is located
at 117 So. Trade St. in Tryon, N.
C.

Wanda J Starling, alternate
candidate for Young Careerist,
will represent the Thermal Belt
Business and Professional
Women's Club at the district
meeting of the Western North
Carolina BPW Clubs on Sunday,
April 5 in Franklin
Mrs Starling is a nurse in the
Progessive Cardiac Unit at
Spartanburg General Hospital
She is also a full time student at
the University of South Carolina
in Spartanburg where she is
working on a degree in nursing
and on pre med requirements.
She is the daughter of Mr and
Mrs Ellis Jennings of Landrum.
The Winner of the district will
compete for State Young Career
Women later this year.
Landrum Lions
To Meet Early
The Landrum Lions Club will
meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the
Landrum Civic Center After a
quick meeting they will adjourn
to the Landrum City Hall for a
public meeting at which
advocates of several cable TV
systems will try to convince the
City Council which system should
be licensed locally.
Mr and Mrs Bill Brock and
Mr and Mrs Marion Brock have
returned from visiting Miss June
Brock in Kansas City, Mo. They
returned Robert Brock to Avila
College after spring break.
Youth Choir
At Myrtle Beach
The Youth Choir of the
Landrum First Baptist Church
left today for the Sunshine Music
Festival at Myrtle Beach. S. C.
which will be held Friday and
Saturday The combined State
wide festival is 'Sponsored by the
S. C. State Baptist Convention
Church Music Dept.
Attending from Landrum were
15 choir members, 3 chaperones
and Ronald Searcy, director.
Those going were Laina and

T-Ball Coaches
Are Needed
The Polk County Recreation
Department is organizing a T-
Ball League for children aged
kindergarten through the third
grade. There are enough children
signed up to form 8 teams, but
coaches are needed.
A coaches meeting is scheduled
for Thurs., April 9 at 6 p m at the
Recreation Department Office
next to the Polk County jail in
Columbus. At this time teams
will be drawn and rules will be
discussed.
