One of the high points of the Millers Hear Mondale Speak Former Vice President Walter F. Mondale was the featured Speaker at the Saturday. March 28 banquet of the Young Democrats of North Carolina Convention held in Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Barry Miller of Columbus represented the Young Democrats of Polk County. In addition to meetings with Governor Jim Hunt, the Council of State and fellow Y.D.'s, the Convention elected officers for the coming year. The eleventh district was well represented. This year’s President, W’ayne MeDivitL is from the eleventh district and next years treasurer, Mrs. Pat Oaks Rowden, is also from the eleventh district. The convention adopted resolutions in support of many issues, including election law reform and a beverage container referendum. Mens Garden Club Auction April 15 The Tryon Mens Garden Club's Silent Auction will be held at the 4-H Headquarters in Columbus. Wednesday, April 15 starting at 7:30 p m. Members should be getting their plants and shrubs started for this event. Such items as garden tools, bird houses and feeders and any other items used by gardeners will be welcome. All kinds of vegetables, fruit, evergreens, shrubs, flowering plants, etc. will all add interest, fun and profit. At the auction each item will have an accompanying sheet of paper for the bids to be recorded upon The bidder will place his name and the amount of his bid on the sheet. The last and highest bid on the sheet when the auction ends will take the items and the bid sheet to the cashier and pay the listed price for the item.
