Phi Beta Kappa
CHAPEL HILL - One hundred
thrity students at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
were initiated into Phi Beta
Kappa, the nation’s highest
scholastic honorary society, in
ceremonies in Memorial Hall
Tuesday, April 28.
Featured speaker at the
banquet following the ceremonies
was Dr. Louis D. Rubin,
University Distinguished
professor of English.
Admission standard to Phi
Beta Kappa is a 3.7 grade point
average (GPA) and 75 credit
hours. Seniors must have a 3.6
GPA and 105 credit hours. (4.0 is
an A average.) Phi Beta Kappa
limits admission to less than 10
percent of the graduating class,
said Dr. John K. Nelson, UNC-CH
chapter adviser and professor of
history.
Inducted from Polk County,
into Phi Beta Kappa for the
Spring 1981 was Melvin Tiomothy
Corbett, junior mathematics
major, son of B. C. and Deborah
G. Corbett of Tryon.
The Music Makers of Tryon are
playing tonight at LeBaron Steak
House and Saturday night at the
Ramada Inn for the
Hendersonville Lion's Club
dinner and dance.

Girls Track Meet was held
Wednesday at Edneyville. The
Edneyville girls won the team
championship with 82 points,
followed by Tryon with 69, NCSD
66, Polk Central 22 and Cherokee
11. All first place finishers were
named to the All-Conference
Team.

Annual Meeting For
Health Services
The recent successful Health
Fair, the proposed Tel-Med tape
program along with the election
of new officers and board
members are on the agenda of
Health Services Information
Center's annual meeting,
according to Leonard F. Bohner,
current chairman. The meeting
will be held at 1:30 p.m. on
Thursday, May 14 in The Meeting
Place.
All health agencies and related
health organizations should be
represented at this annual
meeting. Interest area residents
are also invited to attend.
The revised Health Resources
Manual, edited by Bertha
Blomfield-Brown has been
completed. This is the third
edition of this valuable manual.
