Eleven mountain climbers
were buried when a well of ice
tore off a glacier on Mount
Ranier in Washington early
Sunday and crashed blocks of ice
"the size of cars” onto a group of
resting hikers. Other mountain
climbers on Mt. Hood in Oregon
were also missing.
Wayne B. Williams, a black
freelance photographer who has
been the subject of intense police
surveillance, was arrested
Sunday in Atlanta and charged
with murder in one of the
slayings of 28 young blacks there.
Williams, 23, was charged with
murder in the death of Nathaniel
Cater, 27, the most recent and
oldest of the victims.
Iran’s clergy-dominated
Parliament voted 177-0 with one
abstention Sunday for the ouster
of moderate President Abolhas-

Wray will direct the summer
youth musical play, “The King
and I”, a Rodgers and
Hammerstein production. Betty
Brewer is the Musical Director
and George Finnic is the Set
Designer. Other supporting

Police Car Totaled
A Landrum city police car was
involved in a three-vehicle
accident early Sunday near
Inman.
Policeman Raymond Buteau
was traveling north on Highway
176 when the accident occured,
according to Highway Patrolman
George Oliver. He said a
Chevrolet pulled onto the
highway in front of the patrol car
and was struck from behind.
While Buteau was radioing for
assistance, a Ford station wagon
hit his patrol car from the rear,
Oliver said.
No one was seriously injured in
the accident. Oliver said no
charges will be made. The police
car was totaled, according to
Landrum police Chief Neal

of Lynn are parents of a son,
Michael Stuart II, born June 17th
at St. Luke's Hospital Michael
has a sister, Misty, age 4.
