Tuesday morning was cool and had a delightful breeze. The California Supreme Court refused Monday night to block aerial pesticide spraying against the fruit fly in the Santa Clara Valley. A large portion of Polk County was in Green Creek Monday afternoon watching the Polk County Little Leaguers beat the Green Creek Little League team 7 to 5. Polk County plays the winner of Rutherfordton-Cool Springs at 6:30 tonight. At 4:30 the loser of the Rutherfordton- Cool Springs game will play the winner ol the Green Creek- Harris-Shiloh game. Tonight at 7 o’clock The Upstairs Players will open their season with a free performance of “The Diary of Adam and Eve”, on the front lawn of White Oak Terrace, Oak Street, Tryon. C. 28782 Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament The Polk County Cancer Society is sponsoring a Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26 at Red Fox Country Club. There is an entry fee of $10 per person, payable before start of play or sooner if desired. Checks should be made payable to Polk County Cancer Society. There will be three tournament groups: Regular Groups A & B (seeded) Seniors—for players 50 and over. Seniors may play in either regular group, but must notify committee in time to arrange flights You may make up your own team or if you need a partner, the committee will arrange to get you one. Winners of Group A will be eligible to play in the State Cancer Tournament in Raleigh in mid-August. James Cowan Mr. Cowan, a native of Tryon, is president of J. W. Cowan, Inc, He is a member of the Tryon School Board and Tryon United Methodist Church Board. He is a past president and is the current secretary of the Tryon Lions Club He has also been vice president of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce and has served as a Democrat Precinct Chairman. He served two years as Chief of the Tryon Volunteer Fire Department and was named “Fireman of the Year for 1965." He is married to the former Continued On Back Page Price 10c Per Copy Polk County Beats Green Creek 7-5 Polk County downed Green Creek 7-5 Monday afternoon in the double elimination Little League Tournament at Green Creek before a large crowd. Polk County jumped out to a big early lead as they racked up 4 runs in the first inning. The first three batters for Polk County laid down perfect bunts and the Polk County Little League went on to their win. The big blow of the game was a home run over the left field fence by Polk County’s Shane Littlejohn who pinch hit in the sth inning. The Green Creek team didn’t fold when they got behind early and kept pecking away to make a game of it.
