To "demonstrate” that you are worthy of receiving such a high honor and are truly service oriented, you wear a purple banner for the entire week, go through initiation, and complete any "project” the present honor club members may request (Eureka! 1 Perhaps one of the most important aspects about Honor Club, is that you can remain a member for life, therefore keeping in touch with friends made all over the state. If I am asked what the most important tacit of 4-H is I would say it is the great opportunity to‘ meet new people from all over the state, the country and even the world. Friends are made that are not only kept for the few days of camp or Congress but for the rest of your life. One of the ways 4-H makes many new friends is through service projects This year the state project was dubbed "Partners in Prevention." This marked the awareness that 4-H could not just conduct a crime prevention project, but would have to dig deep and become one with the community. Many hours of work were put into the project across the state. Those individuals working for more than 100 hours or reaching at least 100 households were honored by membership into the Century Club, as I was, Gov. Hunt and the Dept, of Crime Control and Public Safety heads were highly supportive and commended the 4-H’ers on a job well done Projects I have completed are: Adventures in the Kitchen; You and Your Dog; Freezing — 6 years (was state winner in Food Preservation in 1978, County Champion each year); Canning — 5 years — County champion each year; Foods with International Flavor; Meals Today the Easy Way; Crafts; Forestry — 4 years — attended Forestry-Wildlife Camp, was county winner each year; Clothing — 3 years; Dress Revue — 3 years; Wildlife; Jr Leadership, County winner, Secretary-Treasurer's Report — County winner 2 years. — Heidi Faber, Age 17. Peniel 4-H Club, Mrs. June Hill, Leader The Bulletin — 10' Per Copy Double Your Pleasure 1 ^ 0 Rare is a person who can enjoy on first looking into a book that has been studied by generation of readers, the pleasure of writing a poem like Keats, "On First Looking into Chapman's Homer" which poem is itself rated as a classic. Or maybe you have felt that classics were treasures to be slightly hoarded in the vault of your mind There are those who say. “I hate people who excitedly want to tell you about a classic that has been familiar to everybody for generations just because they have just discovered it." The Lanier Library Association. through its sponsorhip of the Great Books Discussion Groups, offer the Community the pleasure of enjoying prechosen Great Books. The best part of these Great Books has been selected and packaged in specially printed paper backs saving the reader the trouble of separating the grain from the chaff in the original. Finally, the participants don't have to keep their pleasure in the Great Book to themselves They gather with their discussion group and in discussion group share their reaction to the author with othersthereby doubleing their pleasure. There is a choice of seven fields of study and of various hours and days of the week for groups to meet. Go to the circulating desk in the Lanier Library where all the information is available. Select a field of study and time of meeting that you like. Before September 1st sign up for the Group of your choice. — Reporter Guest Speaker Ted Graves, Principal of Mt. Pisgah Academy, Candler, N.
