These 14 and 15 year old boys are more fun to watch than the major leaguers and the games are just as exciting. Tonight at 8 o’clock at the Fine Arts Center the Tryon Concert Association presents Hugh McGinnis, pianist along with duo- pianist Frederic Schoettler and Terry Dye. This Saturday and Sunday the open tennis tournament will be played at Harmon Field This tournament is sponsored by the Polk County Jaycees and the Tryon Kiwanis Club. Senior League State Tournament The State Senior League double elimination baseball tournament continues today at Harmon Field Tuesday, Sylva and West Fayettesville received their second defeat and were sent home Tuesday's Results Winston-Salem 3. "A Trip To Camp” by John Barnes III. It was accompanied by a picture of a bedroom at Stone Hedge Inn, one of the exterior of The Stone Hedge Inn and one of "The Tryon Horse." ■ The article tells of leaving a child at camp and sightseeing on the trip back to Brunswick, Ga. The article told of the enjoyable visit at The Stone Hedge Inn and talking with Charles Ivimey at the Chamber of Commerce and having Lydia Clontz show them some property The article was very favorable to this area. “The Cullowhee Experience” CULLOWHEE - Elizabeth L. Claud, eighth grade, and John William Medford Claud, sixth grade, children of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G. Claud of Tryon, were among 350 students who attended "The Cullowhee Experience”, a summer enrichment program held at Western Carolina University for intellectually gifted students. The four week program, which just completed its 24th year under the sponsorship of WCU’s School of Education and Psychology, offers a balance of academic, cultural, social and recreational activities to gifted students in grades five through 10. Most of the participants are from North Carolina and the Southeast, but some represent states as far away as Illinois and Ohio. Students were selected to attend on the basis of having individual IQ scores of 130 or better and achievement records indicating a two-grade placement level above the class to which they belong. Admission also was based on recommendations from school principals and guidance counselors Polk Commissioners Meet Monday The Polk County Commission ers will meet Monday at 3 p.m at the courthouse in columbus. Tennis Tourney This Weekend The Open Men and Women Tennis Tournament will be held at Harmon Field this weekend. The tournament is sponsored by the Polk County Jaycees and Tryon Kiwanis Club. Matches will be played at 8 a.m., 9:30, 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Sunday at 1 p.m. will be the semi- finals of the Mens Tournament followed by the men and women finals. Gaden Corpening has been seeded no. 1, followed by David Vining, Rick Cooper and Bryan Corpening.
