Tryon Daily Bulletin, Tues., May 4,1982 Rev. Geo. A. Johnson, Jr. The Rev. George A. Johnson, Jr. of Newbern, N.C. died Thursday at Greenville, S.C. Mr. Johnson served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Saluda for almost 8 years before he resigned to accept the pastorate of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Newbern. He came to Polk County on Jan. 1, 1961 as pastor of the Green River Baptist Church and served for over two years before accepting the Saluda pastorate. While here he was a charter member of the Green Creek Ruritan Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Sheltered Workshop and was vice chairman of the advisory board of the Social Service Dept, of Polk County. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Johnson; one son, George A. Johnson, III; one daughter, Mrs. Susan Johnson Smiley of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren. 2 Services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. in Tabernacle Baptist Church in Newbern with burial in the Greenleaf Cemetery in Newbern. Oglesby Funeral Home, Newbern was in charge arrangements. of Star Party At O. P. Earle The Spartanburg County Department of Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with area amateur astronomers will sponsor a Star Party in Landrum on Thursday, May 6th beginning at 8 p.m. This Star Party was originally scheduled for last month but was concelled due to cloudy weather. Telescopes will be set up between Landrum High School and 0. P. Earle Elementary School. Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon will be viewed as well as other astronomical objects. The public is invited and hot chocolate will be served. Rain date for the Star Party is Monday, May 10th. Tennis Tourney Here Friday The Appalachian Conference Tennis Tournament will be held at Harmon Field Friday beginning at 9 a m. The courts will be closed to the public until after the tournament is completed. Mrs. Mary Ann Owens Mrs. Mary Ann Owens, 91, of Rt. 1, Tryon, died Saturday afternoon at her home. She was the widow of John F. Owens. A native of Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late David and Julie Alverson Hall. She was a charter member of Peniel Baptist Church. Surviving are: sons, Ralph E. Owens of Dallas, N. C., Herbert B. Owens of Tryon, Norris H. Owens of Columbus; daughters. of Gibbs Mrs. Estelle 0. Potomac, Md., Mrs. Louise 0. Jackson of grandchildren; grandchildren. Tryon; 14 15 great- Services will be held today (Tues.) at 2 p.m. at the Peniel Baptist Church with the Rev. William C. Pate, Jr., Rev. Furman Jackson and Rev. Silas Bradley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Petty Funeral Home charge of arrangements. is in Jesse Page Jesse James Page, 55, of Landrum died Friday in Byrnes Clinic. A native of Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late John and Rossie Lee Pritchard Page. He had retired from Nodine Used Cars and was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are: sons, James Carroll, Randy and Anthony Page of Greer, S. C.; daughters Miss Shirley Ann Page of Greer' Mrs. Mary Jean Cox of Tigersville, S. C.; brothers Bobby Page of Inman, Fran and Johnny Page of Landrum; sister Mrs. Martha Duncan 0 f Landrum; five grandchildren Services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Petty Funeral home with the Rev. Silas Bradley Was in Church officiating. Burial Ingleside Baptist Cemetery. Revival At Tryon 2nd Baptist Church Revival services are being held each evening at 7:30 at the Trvnn Second Baptist Church through Saturday, May 8th. The visiting evangelist is the Rev. j g Brock, pastor of Pleasant Hili Baptist Church in Rutherford County. There will be special music each evening. The Re Aaron Pruitt is the pastor. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross with Rev. James 0. Reynolds and Rev. Tracy H. Lamar officiating. Memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Cross or Hospice of Polk County. McFarland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
