Tanker On Fire
The Landrum Fire Department
was called to a tanker fire at the
rear of Landrum School
Cafeteria. The tanker was filling
the school bus tanks and
apparently some gasoline spilt.
The truck backfired and the
gasoline caught on fire. The fire
was extinguished before much
damage was done.
Planning Board
Meets May 13
The Polk County Planning and
Zoning Board will meet
Thursday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in
the courthouse annex.
Revival
A revival will be held at
Jackson Grove Methodist church
tonight, Friday and Saturday at
7:30 each evening. Rev. Ray
Smith will preach at the historic
old church
Jazz Band
Here May 26
It’s all that jazz and then some
at the Fine Arts Center on May
26. The Jazz Band appears that
night, sponsored by NCNB as a
benefit for the Center. The 18
piece emsemble from the North
Carolina School of the Arts is
stopping off here for a one night
stand on the way to the World s

Seeks Re-Election
Edith Ledford Lutz
Mrs. Edith Ledford Lutz is
seeking re-election to her 4th
term in the N.C. House of
Representatives. Mrs. Lutz was
in Polk County Wednesday and
stated that she had tried to serve
the entire district to the best of
her ability and that if she is re-
elected she will continue to work
for and to serve the people to the
best of her ability.
