All people care about chil dren. That's one thing Mary Allen Maxwell said she has learned over the last 10 months as president of the North Caro lina School Boards Associa tion. Maxwell visited Polk County Thursday. The local press was invited to join her for lunch at the Red Fox, along with Polk County Board of Education chairman Georgia Pack, board member Ann Whitmire and others. "People respect educators as professionals," she said. However, her constituents, school board members, are in a very political business, she said, and do not always receive the respect they deserve. Maxwell, who has served on the Currituck school board for nine years, said she spends a lot of her time as state president delivering talks encouraging school board members in the good work they are doing. She also talks about relationships between boards and school superintendents. Maxwell said most problems occur when board members (Continued On Back Page) TRYON. N C 28782 Fiddler To Be Repeated Sat. Because the demand for tick ets far exceeded the supply, and many individuals were unable to see the show that was pre sented Sept. 26-29, the Tryon Little Theater production of Fiddler on the Roof will be repeated on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center. This will be a one-time-only repeat. A fifth performance represents a landmark for TLT. It will be the first time a pro duction has been presented for more than the normally sche duled four performances. Christine Fitch, director of the musical, says that all the mem bers of the cast and others asso ciated with the play are looking forward eagerly to the addi tional performance. The box office will be open Tuesday through Friday only from 10 a.m. until noon and one hour before curtain time. Cunningham Makes Executive Counci’ Agent Richard Cunningham of Columbus has qualified as a member of the 1991 Executive Council of New York Life Insurance Co., according to William H. Holt, CFP, general manager of the company’s Greenville general office in Greenville, S.C. Council membership is based on 1990-91 sales performance. As an Executive Council mem ber, Cunningham is invited to attend a four day educational conference.
