7S (arch 22, 1975 The Winston-Salem Chronicle Pane 11 Indian Exhibition To Open An exhibition of decendents the first American Indians lill be held in the Taylor Art allery at A&T State niversity March 20 to April ousin ^Subsidy Bill Passed The works, on loan from the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico, will include paintings and crafts from Indians of the Southwest. The show will be the first of three exhibitions planned by A&T as a part of the university’s year-long cele bration of the Bicentennial. “This exhibition is intended to serve the casual observer as an introduction to the little known crafts and to provide an understanding of the contri butions of our Indians to'the life of the people of the United States,said Mrs. Eva Miller, curator of the museum. Mrs. Miller said the exhibition will include ancient crafts such as basketry, pottery, silverwork, and paint ing. Taylor Gallery, located in the basement of the F.D. Bluford Library, will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Alabama Governor George Wallace and nationally famous artist Bob Timberlake [r] of Lexington, N.C., discuss Timberlake’s newest print, “May,” during a recent meeting at the Alabama Governor’s Mansion. Timberlake presented Wallace with the first print of “May,” a watercolor which will be included in Timberlake’s one-man show at Hammer Galleries in New York in April. The House Banking, Cur ency and Housing Committee recently) passed a “middle ncome” housing bill which fould partially underwrite $12 lillion in home mortgages by iubsidizing interest payments in up to 400,000 housing units y June 30, 1976. Intent of the bill is to evitalize the depressed home- luilding and wood products ndustries, not to provide yet mother federal housing pro gram, according to Fifth District Rep. Steve Neal. The subsidy would be available only to middle income individuals and fam ilies whose annual incomes do not exceed 120 per cent of the median income for their particular area. “The median income for a family of four in Winston- Salem is listed at $12,575 per year,’’ Neal said. “That means that an individual or family earning up to $15,090 per year would be eligible for the assistance.” The subsidy would apply only to “home mortgage loans. There will be more firms visiting the campus, but not from the city government or local firms. “They don’t recruit heavily on campus,” he informed. “The majority of the recruiters are from national firms.” Students are offered jobs out of the state, but many prefer not to leave, Andrews said. “Consequently, they accept jobs in the city that they are over-qualified for.
